Sea lions eat several times a day; females can eat up to 25 pounds per day while a male can eat up to 60 pounds a day. Sea lions begin to start being able to eat solids at about 2-3 months old (“Arnold 17”). Sea lions diet consists of small fish such as herring, rockfish and mackerel. In the past year researchers have discovered that the Homarus americanus consume fresh food as their primary food source which includes clams, fish, mussels, crabs, sea urchins, starfish, marine worms, shrimp, plants such as eel-grass and algae, carrion just like the blue crab, and sometimes other lobsters! The Homarus americanus have two claws that are used for acquiring food and consuming the aliment. One of the claws is used to crush shells and animals with hardened outsides such as clams and muscles to obtain some of the meat inside. The other claw is referred to as the feeder claw or pincher which is more maneuverable and transfers the aliment to its mouth. The Homarus americanis consume food by positioning its mouth close to its prey which is how lobsters with omitted appendages consume their victims!…

Many American families believe that SeaWorld is the best family vacation spot with its many parks all over the country. A typical visit to SeaWorld includes petting dolphins, visiting the aquarium, and being splashed by a majestic Orca. While SeaWorld may seem family-friendly, it definitely is not animal friendly. The tourist attraction, also known as SeaWorld, tortures its animals by ripping them from their homes and families, placing them in pools that might as well be bathtubs. Although families enjoy taking a trip to SeaWorld, they would feel a lot differently if they knew about the constant pain and torture inflicted on SeaWorld’s animals.…

whales needed to eat 40,000 over 6 years. 40,000 otters over 6 years / 10,960.67598 otters per whale over 6 years = 3.649 whales needed. 3) Three plausible hypotheses that could explain why killer whales are eating more sea otters: a) Killer whales are eating more sea otters due to other food sources like seals and sea lions declining in quantity in high populated killer whale areas. b) Massive population decline of the killer whales favorite prey—like the great whale—from human influence like over-hunting started a food chain disaster that led to a massive decrease in small marine mammal populations as killer whales moved from marine mammal to marine mammal. c) Whether human or environmental factors, changes in the abundance of sea lions and seals and/or in the food they eat could cause killer whales to have to search for another food source to maintain their average field metabolic weight and because sea otters are smaller in caloric content, more sea otters are required to meet the metabolic…

Lionfish were originally spotted of Florida’s Atlantic coast near Diana Beach back in 1985. The invasion of Lionfish started with only a few fish and it is unknown how they got there, but it was likely to have followed up currents on the Atlantic Coast, to the Bahamas, and into the Gulf. Lionfish are reef fish that are predators, they eat the native fish and reduce their populations having a negative effect on the reef’s habitat. Such as they can eat fish that are algae eaters causing the reef to have way too much algae, or they eat some of the smaller native fish that larger native fish should be eating. When Lionfish reproduce they lay two masses of eggs each with 12,000 to 15,000 eggs each.…
