Scrooge stoke his thumb across the cork of the wine bottle, and the cylinder-shaped piece of bark tissue flew across the generously-furnished room. “Happy New Year, my dear nephew!” Mr. Scrooge yelled jubilantly through the room, his voice mixing in with the joyous laughs and murmurs of the crowd. “Happy New Year, everyone!” Ebenezer Scrooge was celebrating the new year at his home, giving away money to everyone there, not minding if they never pay him back. However, Ebenezer failed to notice when his love for generosity became as poisonous and toxic as his previous love and tendencies of greed. “Father,” Tiny Tim inquired timidly, tugging gently on Bob Cratchit’s loose waistcoat. “May I have some wine this year?” Before the older …show more content…
“Come in!” Scrooge yelled. Upon his invitation came Fred and Bob Cratchit. “Good evening, uncle,” Fred greeted. “Hardly any good it is,” Scrooge mumbled. “It will be good now that we are here,” Bob said, joining the conversation. “Why is that?” Scrooge said, suspicious of Cratchit’s anxious tone. “Well, throughout the year, Bob and I managed to whip up some money for you! Others who finally realized that they needed to repay you also donated some money to you. We came here to deliver it to you tonight as our Christmas present. It is now our time to repay you for everything you have given all of us. Why, even the baker donated some of his profits!” Fred exclaimed cheerfully. Scrooge got up and received the sack of money for his nephew and clerk. “Thank you so very much, lads!” Scrooge said as he broke out in a grin. “It is the least we could do for you, sir,” Cratchit replied. Scrooge nodded, that being his only method of communication during a time of such pure shock and joy. “It’s one thing to be greedy. But it’s another thing to be too generous,” Scrooge whispered finally. “It seems that one must plant himself somewhere in the middle to be content in
