Screenwriting and My Feature Goal
I am Shingo Takatera, who majors in CTVA Screenwriting Option. The course of screenwriting option is so helpful to learn how to be a better storyteller for the motivational environment and the interactive environment. The course of screenwriting option requires all the student to take other classes such as editing, directing, and so on. I find this program is helpful for me to realize that storytelling is not only writing but also how to convey them.
Before I took the editing class, I often struggled writing transitions, and the hint was in the editing class. In the editing class, I learned the basics and some techniques of editing. For example, I learned how to connect a scene to another scene by utilizing action, shape, sound, and so on. The editing would be very conscious and unsmooth without an element. This knowledge really helps me when I write because I can figure out things I need to make a smooth connection between transitions. Moreover, I understand that filmmaking is about teamwork. ‘Just one hour of this and you can go back to sleep’ was the phrase I groggily repeated to myself as I got ready to register for my freshman year of high school. Had I known that the mountain of paperwork I was about to fill out that late July morning would ultimately lead to me finding my passion, I would have definitely been a lot more enthusiastic. I traded all my information for my schedule, only to realize that there was one slight problem: P.E. was on my list of courses for the year. Physical education? I sought out my counselor immediately to fix this quandary.…

The barrier language that I have between Hmong and English is what makes my writing difficult to understand from the start of the school year, not only that, but also just me trying to throughly write an explanation of what I have thought of in mind. Sometimes it doesn’t come out on the paper as I have, have in my thoughts. Which in return create flaws in my level one, two, or three writing paper that affect my writing skills. The flaws that I have slightly improve on my writing: create a clear and stronger thesis statement, subject- verb agreement, and transitioning. Constructing a firm claim and allowing the reader to be able to identify which position I’ve take through my writing by creating a rough draft of what I am going to say in…

My personal interest in NYU’s dramatic writing program stems from an adolescence spent on the fringes of normal. Growing up as the shy, smart black girl in small-town Virginia, I found myself scouring the television or school library desperate to find someone like me, desperate to share in my otherness. But I couldn’t find her. She was trapped in a rejection letter due to her lack of urban flair. Or she was relegated to only providing sassy quips behind the fairer-skinned lead.…
