My friends and me went to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary last Friday in order to fulfill this online assignment. The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary is consisted of four parts. All of the artworks in the first part of this museum is focused on the women and the power. The whole space has been filled with a variety of artworks. A world map filled one of the wall and a series of cloth artworks filled one of the other walls. Then I just noticed this piece of artwork which called You Better Make It In The World On Your Own, composited by Mary Hood.
The artwork named You Better Make It In The World On Your Own and it was made by laser engraved woodcut on vellum with water color. The approach of laser engraved woodcut on vellum, differentiating from the other hand make methods, tends to be a new form of expression and knowledge. While for the dark part, the black background seems like a small house and surrounding by vegetation. The house is created with simple lines by using planar analysis. What’s the most impressive part in my opinion can be the pattern among the women’s neck and the pattern seems like a sun or a flower. At the bottom of the image, the name of this artwork is presented in an artistic way. In general, our most universal standard of measurement is the human body, that is to mean, our experience of living in our own bodies. This artwork takes advantage of this methods to express the proportion
