Scottish music is very unique due to the instruments used such as the bag pipes, fiddle, clarsach, accordion, guitar, drums, piano, bodhran, trump/jaws harp, mandolins, banjos, gut and wire strung guitar, harmonica and wooden flutes. All these instruments are used in Scottish music even though some may be out dated or adopted these instruments make Scottish music distinguishable from all the rest.
The bag pipes are a difficult instrument to learn because first you need to learn the chanter. After learning the chanter you need to add on the other pipe and the bag. To be a bag piper you need strong lungs to fill up the bag with air. Bag pipes are basically bags with a pipe for blowing in air and a pipe for sound to be released.

The clarsach is a traditional Celtic harp. The clarsach is one of Scotland’s own instruments. The clarsach has been used in Scotland for many centuries a lot longer than the bagpipes have been. The earliest dicpictions of the clarsach has been found on Pictish stones dating back to the 8th Century. The clarsach was replaced by the bagpipes in the 15th Century but remained part of the Gaelic community until the 18th Century. Finally the clarsach played a key role in the early Celtic churches music.

Robert Burns isn’t the only well known example are the Proclaimers. They wrote hits like 500 miles and I’m on my way. The Proclaimers are a duo consisting of twins, Charlie and Craig Reed.
The Proclaimers are still very popular because it caused a lot of interest when the Proclaimers said they were coming to Aberdeen. The duo were at their peak activity in the 1980s and 1990s but are so popular even today they cause a lot of commotion.
The twins were born on March 5 1962 in Leith, Scotland. Their main genres are Folk rock, Celtic rock, country rock, college rock and pop rock. Before the twins started the proclaimers they had both been in several punk rock bands. The Proclaimers are also activist for many different movements like the 500 miles movement to help disabled people in Africa.
In summary Scotland has a rich and popular musical heritage which is not shown enough. Before one music class I had never heard of the Proclaimers who are some of Scotland’s best artists. Some of the stereotypes of Scotland help people understand what traditional Scottish Instruments look like and what they sound like in some cases. Some of the oldest Scottish instruments aren’t show cased enough and are just forgotten about. Finally we are fortunate to have people who are passionate enough about these instruments to try and stop people forgetting about
