Scott Westerfeld Pretties Book Report

For my independent reading I choose the book, Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. This is the second book from the series called, Uglies. I read Uglies during my eighth grade year and I loved me. It was a very intriguing story and I knew that if I had to do another independent reading, I would select the second book and I did. The first book mainly focused on how life was like being an “Ugly” and the anticipation of teens turning 16 having the options of doing an operation to be pretty and get to live in the Prettyville with all the pretties. The second book talks about the life of all the pretties and how the operation turned them to be clueless about the past. For the pretties they have more freedom to do anything and are always partying. In the beginning of the book, there was a big party that everyone was invited to, the Valentino Mansion party. Throughout the party Tally kept seeing someone who was dressed up as a Special, ( people that keep the cities safe to make sure no one escapes the borders of Rusty Ruins) Little did she know it was one of the smokies, Croy. Croy was one of Tally’s friend, back when she was an ugly. He gave Tally a note that she wrote long before she was a pretty and gave her two pills to take. These pills were meant to cure Tally and bring back her memory. I like this part because their society is so messed up and and the fact that the people whose gotten the operation do not even notice about their memory loss. Tally was afraid to take the pills Croy sent to her, so Zane suggested that they take the pills together. Taking the pills made the lesions go away and brought back some of their memories. Tally was suppose to take both pills, one was suppose to eat her lesions away and the other kills the nanos, so it won’t eat away your brain. Tally and Zane went to uglyville and they begin to notice that Zane has not been feeling well. They decided to go to uglyville and met up with Tally's friend Sussy and Dex. They soon found out that Zane took the nano pills and was eating his brain tissues.Tally meet up with David, one of the uglies she had a thing with long before she met zane. David was livid after finding out she was dating Zane. He told her that she was only dating him because Zane was pretty. Then towards the end Tally found out that her best friend turned into a special. The book ended with Shay saying, “ Face it Tally-wa, you’re special.” A lot happened towards the ending and I had so many questions in my mind.
