Scott W. Williams
Born April 22, 1943 in Staten Island, New York During his early youth Scott W. Williams was raised in Baltimore by an academically orientated family. His family was involved in many things like the civil rights movement, African American history, and music all of his uncles and aunts had graduated college with at least one degree. His father Roger Williams served in the military but was one of the first blacks to graduate from Penn state with a Ph.D. in psychology. His mother Beryl Williams the first black person to graduate from University of Maine with a degree in Mathematics.

So he enrolled into Morgan state college, along with Earl Barnes and Arthur Grainger and became involved in Dr. Clarence Stephens mathematics career learning program, now known as the Morgan-Potsdam Model. By the time Scott received a B.S in mathematics from Morgan State College he had solved 4 advanced problems in The Mathematical Monthly and had co-authored two papers on Non-Associative Algebra with his undergraduate advisor, Dr. Bohun Volodymir-Chudyniv. All of his hard work and a amazing 96% on the Advanced Mathematics Graduate Exam was suppose to get him Yale but did not get him in for reasons that himself is not known to this day. Soon after he entered Lehigh University where he finally graduated and achieved his life goal earned him a Ph.D. and a M.S from Lehigh University. Also while he still in graduate school he founded the Black Uhuru Society which uncovered, highlighted and protested against racism at the university and the racist town’s policy as a result it increased the black population at the university and these students were allowed to participate in activities that was originally prohibited from blacks. Scott had participated in the schools first anti Vietnam war demonstration in northeastern Pennsylvania. Scott W. Williams has always been interested in mathematics beyond the classroom. Scott W. Williams has given multiple colloquia, and seminar lectures about his mathematics research from Beijing polytechnic Institute in china to oxford university in England together with invited conference lectures. During his lectures he has presented amazing work at over 100 different times at over 60 institutions in nine different countries. He also published 40 articles and has been the editor of the NAM Newsletter and a columnist with the journal Topology Atlas. In 2004, Science spectrum magazine and career communications Group Inc. had awarded Scott W. Williams as one of the most important Blacks in research science. The reason for his award were because of his efforts in two projects which had attracted blacks to mathematics and brought up black mathematicians together for a joint researches in the mathematical projects. He is a board member for the council for African American researchers in the Mathematical Sciences, and he is the creator of and maintains the world famous website mathematicians of the African Diaspora which has had over 3 million
