This goal can improve my life by making me feel better about myself by giving me more confidence, not only in golf but also in school or other activities. Due to having more confidence, in the future I can relate back to when I achieved one of my hardest goals which will remind me to never stop trying. The day started like any other, but the same could not be said for how it ended. I arrived at the town golf course, Longshore, about 30 minutes before my tee time. There was slight cloud coverage, minimal wind, and a comfortable temperature. Glints of sun through the clouds periodically illuminated blades of grass, almost signaling for the ball to be hit there. The bentgrass took a deep, rich shade of green from the recent douses of rain.…

Success is often defined as the accomplishment of one’s goals or objectives. Most people measure life by their successes. Life is a game in which I am constantly measured by myself and others. When I was younger, I based my goals on the expectations of others. I felt enslaved by the goals that were set for me by my superiors – my parents, successful peers, and enthusiastic teachers and mentors.…

Not only my goal, but also the team’s goal was to have winning season and exceed our expectations. The ambition we had enabled us to move our way up to fourth place in our region (within our county). At this point I knew my job was done. As I shoot the ball into the net, I look over at my coach. She is smiling with a big grin. I think about all the times she has pushed me to be the best I can be and all the drills that we were forced to do. As I began my Soccer career as a freshman, I was one of the slowest runners on the team, but each year my coach pushed me to run faster. I am now one of the fastest players on the field because she taught me that hard work pays off.…

With every practice of my routine, with every lap I ran to boost my stamina, with every vocal exercise I did to strengthen my diaphragm, I was one step closer to my goal. Although it was hard, I finally experienced the value of hard work when my team was announced as overall first place winners at our first competition. It was also experiences like being my team’s captain for two years that contributed to my valuing of hard work. It is not easy leading an entire team, but the hard work all pays off when we hear that crowd cheer for us after perfectly executing a tedious performance. Along with reaching my goals as a cheerleader, I also began to apply the same attitude to reaching my goals academically.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

The most important memory of Disc Golf for myself is the first time I had experienced a round with my brother Dylan. Growing up as a child I had always admired Dylan and looked up to him as a role model. Any idea or activity that had popped into his would usually be pushed upon me for trial. He always seemed to introduce me to ravishing new music and movies but this time was different. The game was Disc Golf and when it was mentioned, my body language portrayed the excited emotions I was feeling inside.…

The article, “Practice Doesn’t Make Perfect” by Maria Konnikova, believes and argues the opposite of what most people accept to be true, that practicing something can only get someone so far and that practice alone can never make someone perfect. Maria reported on her interview with a psychology teacher named Zach Hambrick who said he spent at least a thousand hours of practicing golf as a young adult hoping to make it to the PGA, but instead found himself not making the cut for his college golf team. Maria proposes that there are many other factors that play a role in helping someone become extremely talented, or even a professional, in various activities and hobbies in life other than just purely practice. Contrary to popular belief, Maria,…

Happiness is easily achieved once you find the right balance between your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional selves. As Thomas Merton said: "Happiness is not a matter of intensity but balance and order and rhythm and harmony." Nevertheless, intensity should never be underestimated, as it may be of help from time to time. For some, achieving balance in their lives may seem a bit difficult, especially if they are very busy individuals with little or no time for themselves... or so they think. What these people need to understand is that by giving priority to their well being they are contributing greatly to the world around them, as balanced individuals form a balanced world, and only then, can true happiness be experienced.…
