In Scudder and Shaler, Professor Agassiz always thought highly of them because of challenges he put forward and accomplished with hard work. College is not easy. However, I know I can accomplish many things through here if I just set my priorities first which is my education. Scaler with little to no experience on fishes was brought a small fish. Professor Agassiz instructed him to study the specimen, but he specified that “[he] should on no account talk to anyone concerning it, nor read anything relating to fish until [he] had [professor Agassiz] permission to do so (1). He wanted Shaler to think for himself and not depend on any outside resources but his own intellectual mind and sense of comprehension or observation. Professor Agassiz is usually always around but after the set of instructions “[he] concerned himself no further with [Shaler] that day, nor next week, nor for a week. Due to this situation it got him stressed. He later realized it was put to the test so kept moving forward. In college when this occurs that professor is not around, it is always our one responsibility to complete any given assignments. In the end of the day, that grade depends on the time, effort, and work we put in. Throughout their passages they showed a dedication I have never seen before. They studied all day and all night long when they had to. They focused deeply in their assignment and succeed. That is the mind-set I need if I want to truly achieve in college. After all, it is my responsibility to put time and effort in any given assignment. The teacher has to present, discuss, and challenge the topics. In the end of the day if I don’t do my part I can never be an over achiever. I need to be able to think above and beyond through any difficult assignments. If I want to succeed in any challenge I face academically, my way of being has to transform to a dedicated, hardworking, and open-minded
