The excerpt from Scivas was written by Hildegard von Bigen. This text tells about a vision that Bigen experiences. Bigen saw a vision from Heaven at the age of 43 when apparently a voice from Heaven was speaking to her. From the text, the voice from heaven commands her to write and tell others about her visions. The voice tells her to tell others what she sees and hears about the commands of “Him Who Knows.” The voice tells her to speak repeatedly of what she has to do. She also has a different vision before this one. She had a vision at the age of 42 where she gained insight on the Scriptures, the Psalter, the Gospel, and more volumes from the Old and New Testaments. Bigen claims, “Heaven was opened and a fiery light of exceeding brilliance came and permeated my whole brain, and inflamed my whole heart and my whole breast, not like a burning but like a warming flame, as the sun warms anything its rays touch.” This vision led to her understanding of the new knowledge she gained. …show more content…

Her work was written and distributed all over with the help of pieces of paper bound together with ideas filled in them. Other media depicted that helped with the construction of the object would be a verbal medium, speech. Parts of Scivias was recited by Pope Eungenius III at the Synod of Trier. This allowed the work of Bigen to be recognized by others. Speech is one of the mediums of the object because of speech is since it was read aloud, it must have been approved by the Pope.
