Research Paper

The job that I chose was Scientific Photography. According to “Student Scholarships” (2016) a scientific photographer’s average day at work would be working with other photographers by being assigned to go somewhere to take pictures, or at a clinical trial taking pictures of findings. They could also go to big well known cities to take pictures of people in a natural state while using different kinds of imaging methods to make the pictures look unique. During this day working with other professionals you take good pictures, make money, while having a good work experience. Being a scientific photographer will give you really fun experiences, a new insight of the world, and of the people around you.

As explained by Obichukwu (2016), the roles and responsibilities of a scientific photographer are to record observations, and show

One of the units we did that relates to my job was “The Miracle Fish?” in the Evolution unit. This unit has to do with scientific photography because in it we talked and learned about extinct and endangered species of different types of animals. (Henderson, 2008, pg. 22) wrote that in scientific photography you can take pictures of animals that are in the interest of scientists, which are usually endangered species. This brings me to the exciting reasons why I chose this career. For one, I love taking pictures of animals. But as (Bizony, 2004, pgs. 80, 166, & 58) has explained, in scientific photography you can take pictures of animals and humans insides, bacteria, bones, and cells with a microscope (micrography). Scientific photographers also take up close pictures of planets with a telescope too. These things are exciting to me because with the naked eye it’s hard to see these things, but when you are in this type of photography you see things people don’t see

Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote two short stories: “The Birthmark” and “Rappaccini’s Daughter”; which show how nature and science can both be positive and negative. But while they are written by the same author and have the same general message, when looking deeply at the texts, a different theme and narrative can arise. The stories of “The Birthmark”, “Rappaccini’s Daughter”, and the poem “The Tables Turned” show the different facets of the struggle of science versus nature, while emphasizing the pursuit of perfection, examining outside influences, and discovering connections between the two stories. In examining the struggle of science vs. nature, we must first analyze each story by itself, and recognize its relationship.…

Trying on a career before deciding which to pursue should be done at earlier stage of life. This is particularly helpful for students who have recently joined for undergraduate degree. It is one of the best ways to figure what an individual is good at, if the job interests him/her or if they can actually perform well on it. Caroline Potter describes “trying on” a career as a ‘job shadowing’, where an individual follows or shadows a professional throughout a workday to understand what that particular job entails (Potter, n.d.). From a viewer’s perspective any job might look exciting and fun, until s/he has to work on it.…

Science is a difficult concept simply that to define it, is to define all we know about the world in which we live. I am of the opinion, that since the dawn of the scientific age there has been a clear and defining breakdown in terms of gender in science. As a young woman studying Marine Biology, I someday wish to be viewed as a member of the scientific community. In spite of this, when I think of a ‘scientist’, a man in a lab coat is all that comes to mind. This is the historical image of the scientist, perpetuated through generations, not only in the classroom, but in all facets of science and its representations.…
