It can be used in all aspects of life and in almost any career you go into. The way in which you conduct these experiments and how accurate results need to be can vary greatly. Following is an example of one way that I often use the scientific method.
Gardening is one of my hobbies in which I could use the scientific method. One example of a way in which I might use the scientific method is when I have some old seeds that I still want to use. I would start by forming a question, like “What percentage of these seeds will germinate?” This is important for me to know so I can choose how many seeds to put in each hole.
After I have my question, I need to create a hypothesis, such as “Five out of ten seeds will germinate.” This hypothesis will often be based on a number of things; such as experience and information you have gotten from gardening books or other sources. This hypothesis will help you to decide what the experiments should be.
I would then need to think of an experiment to educate my hypothesis. One experiment I could do is putting ten seeds in a wet paper towel and seeing how many sprout. When performing this experiment, I would want to make sure that the paper towel stayed wet and that I gave it adequate time to sprout. These experiments might prove or disprove my hypothesis, but either way they are
