Science Technicians of both laboratory and school backgrounds deal with lots of strange chemicals and equipment every day, and of course they need to know how to get the best out of what they’re using. Although they are specially trained, some of their day to day activities may seem pretty mundane; measuring, sampling and testing chemicals. The chemicals may need to be tested to ensure they are what they say they are, or to see if they have degraded. The chemicals may need to be sampled so they can be compared with other chemicals, to see which works better in a reaction. The chemicals may also need to be measured to make sure that the correct amounts are being used for experimentation. This kind of information is usually …show more content…
There would usually be a rota used to instruct who is checking what on which day, and this would need to be signed once the duty has been done. It would also need to be dated so all members of the team can be sure all duties are up to date.
One of these responsibilities could be checking that the laboratory is well-stocked and has the appropriate resources for a range of experiments to be done. First, whoever has been assigned this duty must check around the lab to find out what needs to be ordered and make a list, they will then run it past their manager (and usually fellow colleagues) to ensure nothing has been forgotten, and either call a chemical supply company or order the needed products online. This kind of procedure would be necessary more often in schools than in laboratories because laboratories are more likely to order in bigger bulk which will last longer and therefore need to be restocked less
