A good person has various characteristics that allow him or her to shine through. The person might have leadership skills, is able to manage time well, or able to motivate him/herself and others. As a nominee for Boys State in Sacramento, CA, I, Justin Tam have good leadership skills, is able to be self-motivated, and is a good student in and out of school.
One trait that I have that is important for a Boys State person is good leadership skills. A person that has good leadership skills would be able to lead people in times of prosperity, and in times of crisis. For me, I have done both. Throughout my life, I have always been a good student in school. I get good grades, respect my teachers and administrators as well as students, and treat others the way I wanted to be treated. When I represent my school outside of campus, I always treat others respectfully and politely. For example, at one of my volunteer events, I was placed as part of customer service. When a person came up to me, I greeted them, answered all of their questions accurately, and thanked them. As a result, I have earned attention and praise from my supervisor in the event, as well as the customers for the event. I believe that being a good student is necessary for Boys State. A good student in education will translate to an active and informed citizen in the real world. I believe that a good student will begin to see problems in the government and would like to find ways to resolve them. Since Boys State is trying to teach its students how to become good and active citizens, it is important for them to begin with students that have good grades, a polite attitude, and a respectful background. I will then use my knowledge into the clubs I take part in. I will actively participate and give ideas on how the club should improve. I will also use my knowledge in clubs I run.
