For the game I was unsure what I wanted to do. I had to do an Earth Science game and I choose to talk about earthquakes. I named my game Tecnopoly. I prepared by finding a game that would be interesting to the visitors and educational while having fun playing it. I was not sure how the game was going to be constructed; I had too many things going on and causing myself to be confused. I choose a board game that was dubbed from the famous board game Monopoly. However, I only took the concept and instead of playing for money the object of the game was to test your knowledge about tectonic plate boundaries. When I tried the game out in class I was not sure which approach I would take as far as should the game be weather related due to tectonic plates, or different catastrophes …show more content…
Several visitors talked extensively about the tremors in Irving, Texas, bringing the conversation to other weather catastrophes. I enjoyed my teaching experience at the museum. I would do nothing differently from what I had prepared. The really young children loved playing with the mover I had, which was a shiny, yellow sports car. This game provided exactly what I was trying to accomplish, gaining knowledge about earth’s movement. I never thought I could teach a science class when I entered this class this fall semester. I teach other subjects all day and never thought I could teach science. The professor, Dr. Narayan is such a unique teacher that has the ability to give her students the confidence to teach science. She made me understand science is not a lab and a white coat; science is everywhere. I now understand how to relate science to everything and anything. Before taking this class I was afraid of science, period. Now, I am no longer afraid to teach science. I embrace the subject, and am confident I can teach science to my students and they will not find the subject boring. I am taking so much from this class and have been exposed to many ideas and strategies of how to teach

There are many misconceptions in astronomy. For example, many people (even Harvard graduates) believe that the reason that seasons exist is that the closer Earth is to the sun, the hotter it is, resulting in summer. Likewise, the further away the Earth is from the Sun, the colder it is, resulting in winter. We know that the reason seasons exist is because of the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth. For instance, when Earth is on the right of the Sun, the tilt causes the northern hemisphere to be in the dark and the southern hemisphere to be illuminated in daylight.…

There are some challenges to hands on and cross-curricular learning, within our activity we came across some areas that could have been developed, Hayes (2010) argues that hands on learning its heavily resourced. We agreed with this as the amount of resources we had available were limited. We also didn’t ensure we had planned for a child with a medical need, and therefore had to re arrange the activity a quarter of the way through the lesson to ensure she could join in. One key area that we identified was that children became more involved with the way the house looked in a creative sense, rather than the scientific reasoning. This challenge is also identified by Jarvis (2009) who expresses that one of the risks to cross-curricular learning is that one subject takes over in response to children’s enthusiasm and interest, this is of a loss to the other subject.…
