Personal Reflection: What I Learned

Improved Essays
While taking EXP 101 I have learned a lot of things. I have explored my LCI scores in great depth and opened my mind to a different mindset. I have learned a lot about myself that I was unaware of before. I learned how to become a more intentional learner. If I had the chance to explain learning I would explain learning as a process done where you take in in formation then utilize it when needed. I would then explain the process of learning and the different ways people learned according to their learning patterns. Taking this course was definitely an eye opener on the different ways people learn. I was completely unaware that people learned in different ways. I have realized learning is not just an aspect of school, but an enhancement of …show more content…
I feel the need to be perfect on almost everything I do, so I tend to tether this pattern the most. An intentional learner knows how to FIT their learning patterns based on the tasks they are given. In order for me to become an intentional learner I feel the need to FIT my learning patterns from outside and inside the classroom on a regular bases so I don 't forget how to do so. I would hate to start my degree off as an intentional learning and then stray from what I was taught. In these past five weeks of taking this course I learned a lot and had a lot of good experiences. What I enjoyed the most was the discussions. The discussions helped me analyze the material and get other points of views and the same material from other students. What I didn 't like was having to respond to the discussions , but that is just because I don 't think I 'm a good communicator. My expectations for this course was for it to not be so difficult to where I could not comprehend the material , but not so easy as to where I was bored and not learning much. Another expectation for this course was for it to be interactive and not just tell me to read a chapter and then do a quiz. My expectations were met in the ways listed and in many other ways. The course not only gave discussions, but also had use review others students and we all had to give response to at least two discussions. The instructor also gave

I use SEQUENCE first because I am a well organized person, I am the type of person who wants the clear step by step instruction and I like to set up for my tasks and if possible be given an example to ensure that I am doing what is required. I use this pattern when paying my monthly bills I fill in my calendar for each month with the name of the bill the due date and the amount owed. I also write down the date that I will mail it off or pay by phone this frees my mind up for other things so that I'm not having to remember all those details so I can just simply do it. I use PRECISION first because I like to ask questions to be sure that I'm retaining the correct info and that the info is accurate, I do not like information that's not precise…

This course was extremely intriguing and had me hooked from the first discussion forum. It required me to venture out of my comfort zone and ask questions that others viewed as odd, but I knew was going to assist me in my studies. I can recall one specific instance where I was on twenty-four-hour duty and I began asking a police officer doing his security checks questions. It had to be two in the morning and you can tell by the exhausted look on his face when he walked through the bitter cold into our dimly lit building entrance. He spoke with very little energy as he said good morning, but once I began asking him the list of questions that I just so happened to have typed on my laptop screen he immediately perked up and began to speak with life.…

Learning is not something you can obtain from just reading books or even searching on the internet, learning is so much more than that it is a tool, a song, or even a movement, it is taking in the world around you and college is simply preparing us to be able to learn by teaching us how to learn. When I started EXP 105 I had no idea what to say about learning and what it meant all I could really say about learning was "it is a weapon that we use to take this world day by day". I now see that this class was not just a step closer to a degree because I now know a lot more about learning and how it actually starts with myself. EXP 105 has obviously changed my point of view of learning I mean I could I try to understand this world and not know hardly anything about myself.…

The strongest person in the world might be able to tackle any physical obstacle, but mental stress can be much more difficult. The nuance with mental stress is that different environments affect people in different ways, and in different magnitudes. Cathy Davidson’s “Project Classroom Makeover”, Susan Faludi’s “The Naked Citadel”, and Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Power of Context”, all describe scenarios with environments that are either stressful and negative, or relaxed and positive. An individual’s identity is minimally impacted in positive environments and drastically affected in negative environments.…

Learning can be interpreted in many ways to different individuals, although to me learning is about gaining knowledge and embracing every experience encountered and linking it to any task. Also I would explain that being open minded is a strong attribute to apply during the learning process. During my week one I stated that learning is to open and broaden an individual’s mind on subjects to gain knowledge or skills, and I’ve grown to realize its more than that. People can learn using different methods and be more responsive to one rather than the other. I am a Strong-Willed learner.…

By asking myself "What have I learned in this course" many different things come to mind. Since the start of this course we have discussed a variety of different things and had so many different objectives to accomplish each week throughout this fifteen week course that it is hard to pinpoint which is the most important. As far as fulfilling all the objectives that we had to fulfill from this course, which were listed in the syllabus, I think that I have been able to fulfill most if not all the objectives. I have been able to fulfill and accomplish these many different objectives through my use of both my analytical and critical reading skills when reading the different texts, along with understanding the time periods each of the texts were written in as the time played a huge role when trying to interpret what the author is trying to say.…

Now that I have completed my first class, EXP Dimensions of Education, I have a better understanding of the definition of learning. In light of my new knowledge, I am now in a position to explain learning to others. I would explain that the key to success, whether in education or in the real world is, knowing how to learn. Learning requires taking in the world around you, linking what you are experiencing and finding meaning in it. Since taking this class my view of learning has changed in a major way.…
