Tier 2 Science Class Reflection

When debating on what to take for my Tier 2 science class, I knew I wanted something that I could learn real-life information. I had no idea that the class I chose would inform me on many relevant and important topics. Before this class, my comfort with talking about sexuality was very low. However, now I feel like I could have a conversation with someone and speak with confidence and knowledge. Through the lectures and other class related activities I was able to gain new attitudes and feelings towards sexuality. I always enjoyed attending the lectures because I knew I would always be learning something new. Something I found extremely beneficial, from the lectures, was how you were able to provide a lot of real life examples to the subjects being covered. Classes where you just take notes from PowerPoints can get boring; however, the balance you brought to note taking and class discussions was great. I always felt like you allowed the discussions to go on as long as the needed to go because our questions and real-life examples are how classes can learn this information the best. …show more content…
These all helped me learn more about different topics and how others viewed them. I always believe it is nice to hear how people feel differently about other subjects because you could also realize something you never recognized about a certain topic. While there was much to enjoy about the class, sexuality is a very fragile subject. By this, I mean people may still be scared to ask questions, but have lots of questions to ask. A request for the future would possibly be a day where you allow people to email you questions about anything have questions over, then the following day you could answer them. Possibly even shutting the lights off and allowing people to ask question would be an idea too. This would preferably be best to do towards the end of the

If you were to look at sex education compared to that of a decade ago, I could reassure you that there is so much that we have learned. Covering topics such as sexual education and gay rights are not things your mother learned about in her sex education class. Prior to taking this class, my knowledge about gender and sexuality was incredibly limited. Going into this class, I was aware of two genders and that some people had different sexualities. Regardless, I was accepting of all individuals for their gender or sexuality. According to David Sadker and Karen Zittleman, it is important to not become gender blind as a teacher because, “…gender blindness makes it difficult for educators to see how sexism influences virtually every aspect of how we teach and learn” (Sadker and Zittleman). Without being aware and acknowledging the different genders in a classroom, teachers would lack perspective.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

The event that I attended on campus was a sexual education course presented by Farren Lobdell, the health educator and wellness coordinator on campus. I went to this event because my roommate needed to attend an event on campus to write a similar paper for her FYEP class as well. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about going to the course because it can be an awkward thing to talk about, but I didn’t want her to have to go alone. I had some idea of what we would be talking about, hence the name of the course but wasn’t exactly sure. I learned many things from the course and it was very educational.…

Being a part of a Human Sexuality course has definitely opened my eyes to many different topics and issues that are occurring around the world. I believe I have lived a very sheltered life after learning about some of these topics, because I hadn’t even heard of most of them. I liked to think I knew all there was to know about human sexuality simply because I understood sexual intercourse, STI`s, and using protection. But human sexuality involves much more than those three things. Three of the major topics that have made me really think about how uneducated I was in regards to human sexuality were sexual birth defects, gender identity and gender roles, and sexual assault.…

Sexual education in schools needs to be addressed because it could deter HIV/AIDS; it will decrease teen pregnancy, and it can also help young people make wise decisions. The social limitations that are present in the novel “In Order to Live” are mainly caused by the dictatorship rule over society in North Korea. Due to the laws and extreme punishments, people are very willing to turn in their friends and even family members as long as it means they themselves are safe. Some of these social limitations include their inability to speak freely, think freely, or act freely. Another limitation people faced in the novel were that they were unable to make their own choices like choosing their own jobs. I can relate to a few of these limitations through my experiences as a senior in high school transitioning into a freshman in college since I was very limited in the high school I went to.…

Everything that I learned about sex when I was younger came from my cousins, friends at school and the children in my neighborhood. They did influence my attitudes and sexual behavior but not as much as my grandparents, aunts and my curiosity to research about sex. My culture has also played a key role in my sexual development because I had to balance traditional Christian values and modern ideas and attitudes toward sex. During my early adolescence I spent three days in church every week surrounded by my family.…
