Personal Narrative: My Ideal Educational Experience

Improved Essays
I have been to many schools during my schooling career. I stayed at one charter elementary school till fifth grade. For sixth though eight, I stayed at one private school. However, for high school I attended four different schools. Two were private and two were public. One of the public schools I attended was actually online. I ended up graduating from one of the private schools. I ended up really enjoying myself there because I finally found a place that I fit in and that accepted me. College was also difficult too. I have attended to 3 different ones, one community college, one liberal arts college in Chicago, and now Brandman. Overall, I have had a very difficult time finding a high school and college that I fit into for many reasons. However, for this assignment I am going focus on high schools because that was the toughest and most difficult time in my life. From what I have experienced, I have figured out what is important to have in a high school versus what is unnecessary, at least for me. Before creating my ideal educational experience, I feel like I should share a little about my …show more content…
At the pervious schools I attended, it was all about the school and the social status within it. The schools did not incorporate the outside world or reality into the classrooms. The school would also focus on what interests the students. For example, if I attended this school, and I was interest in teaching, the school would give me the ability and opportunity to participate in a teaching environment. It would allow me to have hands on experience by letting me volunteer or observe. This is a similar idea to the readings this week. At my ideal high school it would prepare us not only academically but also socially in regards to jobs, interactions and living as an individual. I would like this school to be on a sliding scale so that anyone who needed an environment like this would have the ability to be a part of

I’m sure someone has asked them self what it would be like to go to a whole new school at one point in their life, especially if they did not like their school much. I certainly had, but I most definitely not expecting to. Going from a private school like Jackson Academy to a small public school like Puckett High School was a big change, and there were many contrasts between the two schools. The three most important differences between Jackson Academy were the size, dress code, and education. Jackson Academy was very different from Puckett.…

Then after a semester in public school then went to my honors and AP classes I felt more familiar with the teaching way. They got more into detail and were challenged again like I was in private school. Overall there is a big difference in our educational system depending on the place you go and who teaches there. Basing that off the teacher who had my senior year for AP English because she could have taught at a better school and would be very successful I enjoyed everything that she taught me and was able to apply a lot of her techniques till now. Then there were teachers in my private school that I wondered how the hell these people got this job and then I think Armenian… Connections.…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

My parents have said to work hard and do my best in school. I never understood why until I got older. The reason they told me to do my best in school was because they wanted me to think about school and my future. Both of my parents didn't get the chance to go to college. They both came to the United States looking for what most people come to the United States for ‘The American Dream’, they wanted a place where they could raise their children and find a stable job.…

There are obvious improvements to suggest, such as better teachers and a comprehensive, but those are easier said than done. The addition of study hall or something similar after school, where students can stay after and study with their peers or their teachers instead of heading home is much simpler. Students who are dedicated to grades can get extra study time, while students who are not so grade focused just do not go. The ideal high school would organize classes with a focus on academic ability. Grade levels will still be based on age, but not all members of a grade take the same courses.…
