Over the years, America has watered down their standards to the point that while countries like Saudi Arabia, Japan, and India are doing algebra in middle schools, they start it in high school. In a paper written by the president of the National Education and The Economy, he makes many claims and references as to why america is failing. But the two overall branching mistakes is that now education is so normalized to the point it becomes a problem. Kids lack the motivation or drive. “Forty years earlier, Grandma was the first in the family to finish high school. Twenty years ago, Dad was the first to go to college. Now, all the kids have to go to college,” as taken from the article. Kids are pressured into school because seemingly today’s society requires a form education to be labeled as well rounded. However students aren’t the only ones at fault when it comes to lack of prep for the real world. Another mistake we’re making is lack of professional teacher prep. In fact, while in the mid 1970’s jobs for people of color and women opened up, the quality of teachers went down because these talented people didn’t pursue a teaching career, the results of good teachers went down drastically as the want for the job had.
