The traditional school year should remain in Niagara because in comparison to year-round schooling it is less expensive, more convenient for parents, and offers more opportunities for students. Funding for education is expensive enough as is, and possibly making the school year longer could alter these costs. To fund education all school staff must be paid, which includes teachers, secretaries, and janitors. If year-round schooling was designed to rotate between giving some students a break while others are in school, drastic expense changes would follow. Adding in the fact that students would need a comfortable environment to work in increases these costs even more. During summer months in Niagara, air conditioning is a necessity for students to work at their full capacities. Purchasing air conditioning in every school across the board would be incredibly costly and quite unrealistic (Waddell, 2016, ¶ 28). Additional funding for buses year-round would also be needed and would have a …show more content…
Parents who work in the summer already find stable childcare for younger students. It is much simpler to find a steady babysitter for the summer than one who is able to work at random with the unsteady schedule that year-round schooling would provide (Waddell, 2016, ¶ 7) Also, older students could be provided with summer jobs in babysitting if their schedules match with younger students. Along with this, there are many families who plan vacations during the summer months. Switching to year-round schooling could completely alter families lives leaving them feeling disorganized. Taking time away from extracurriculars is just another inconvenience for

First, it would cost more to switch to a year-round schedule. During the summer months, the school would need to pay a lot of money for aid conditioning throughout the school. It would be almost impossible to hire a teen for one month out of the summer because most businesses search for long-term employees. Also, parents that rely on that working teenager may struggle to get by if their child attends a year-round school. These are just some of the possible outcomes if schools choose to switch to a year-round agenda. This is unacceptable. Allan G. Osborne Jr., a retired principal of the Snug Harbor Community School in Quincy, Massachusetts, expresses that evidence for year-round schools that show improvement are sparse and many educators are reluctant to experiment with year-round school schedules (Osborne Jr. 28).…

With more and more people switching to year round schools, more and more families are struggling to keep summer vacations and traditions alive. At the beginning of summer many families are getting ready for vacations, camping, and more, but if there is year round schools, then they will have to put off family traditions and vacations they have been doing for years or have been looking forward to for a while, so they have to get rid of all that just for year round schooling, which just started. Also, what if the parents already paid for that trip? That wouldn't be fair for them to pay good money on a trip that the whole family wanted to go on, just for year round school. Now if they want to go on a trip it has to be planned around the school's…

Unlike most people believe, year round schooling is still in session for 180 days, with breaks occurring every few weeks (Yeager, "Year-Round Education Program Guide."). Traditionally, schooling for 500 students is $542 per student, while in a year round education, it would be $616 per student; however, for the enrollment of 635 students in traditional schooling is $515 per pupil, while in a year round system, it would only cost $490 per student (Yeager, "Year-Round Education Program Guide."). This is important because if we begin to implement a year round system, the cost would inevitably go down per student, thus saving money for other materials such as books, desks, or other necessary materials to help further the learning process. It is also cost efficient because vandalism and other crime rates tend to go down (Yeager, "Year-Round Education Program Guide."). This isn’t to mention the other areas of saving such as “capital outlay for additional facilities; avoided extra‐site operation and staffing, including classified, certificated, and administrative personnel, furniture, supplies and equipment, utilities and maintenance, and transportation.”…

Another study states “students requiring academic support don't have to wait to go to summer school to get help. Instead, they can attend remedial classes early in the year to catch and fix problems quicker.”(pbs.org,2001). Without the long summer break, kids need less time to catch up and relearn so they can learn more and the entire school year. All in all year-round school improves student learning without burnout.…

Arguments on the merit of the implementation of year round schooling in the American public school system arose in the early 1900s, but have grown in complexity with time. In contemporary society, there are several factors affecting the decision of instituting a year round school schedule in place of a traditional school schedule, including its effects on the students, their parents, and the administrators. However, in order to determine the true value of instituting one of the many options for year round calendars, the American nation as a whole must consider the effect of the transition on the American economy. Such factors include the effect of the transition between calendars on the energy costs necessary to keep a school running, student ability to obtain employment, and costs of constructing new schools and additions onto already standing schools to avoid…

Year round schooling should be enforced as it is beneficial for a student’s academic, financial, and social performance. It is definitely a wise decision, especially for students who are falling behind, to go to a school that provides year-round education.…

Chen (2014) provides evidence that year-round schools do present benefits that would not be available on a traditional schedule and, even though schools would have to adjust, bring a form of regularity to the students, teachers, and parents that they never had before (para. 10). This goes to show that a year-round education calendar can work if the students and faculty agree to be out of their comfort zones for a…

Little do we know year-round schooling has many more advantages than disadvantages, actually a lot of good things can come out of this.
