Have you ever wanted to express yourself in a certain way and not been able to? Has your family ever complained about back to school shopping? Well, if all schools decided to require uniforms then both these problems would definitely occur. Uniforms should not be enforced in schools worldwide; they take away kid’s individuality, they aren’t comfortable or pleasing whatsoever and it’s just another big cost some families can’t afford to have.
Although school uniforms are unnecessary, others might disagree. Some people believe that if there was uniforms in schools, it would make kids pay attention more and actually do better in class. In fact, based on a survey done nationwide by the National Association of Elementary School …show more content…
When kids are forced to wear a uniform that they don’t want to wear it will bring their attention off of school and onto the fact that they’re being forced to do something that they don’t want to do (Chen). When you’re forced into doing something that you don’t particularly like then you probably won’t have a good attitude towards whatever it is that you’re doing right? This would be the same for school, if schools forced kids to wear uniforms that they don’t want or like based on the looks of them and that they aren’t as comfortable as say being able to wear sweatpants or basketball shorts or something along those lines, then they probably aren’t going to treat the school/ schoolwork with respect. They will be too caught up in what they have to wear that they might not have the right attitude towards things which would then result in an unneeded and avoidable problem. “Students who are overweight might feel very self-conscious about their bodies” (Chen). If they were allowed to wear whatever they felt comfortable in, then it wouldn’t be a problem and they wouldn’t have to …show more content…
According to an article on ProCon.org, Americans spend around 1 billion dollars per year on uniforms (“ProCon.org”)! That is just crazy, and not all schools even require them at the moment, could you imagine if they did? What would that do to your family? Especially if you come from a good sized family then this would be an even bigger problem. Usually, school uniforms (polos, khakis, etc.) are more expensive than most normal clothes (“ProCon.org”). So why make parents have that extra cost? If you have to have uniforms then you usually will have to pay for different colored polos and khakis right up front, along with all the beginning of school fees and back to school supplies. I think that that is extremely unnecessary, what would families of the lower class do? How do you think they would feel having that big extra cost just for their kids to be able to go to school, let alone all the other things that come with taking them to and from, feeding them while they’re there and even caring for them at home. Uniforms are expensive and very unneeded in
