School Uniforms To use school uniforms or to not use school uniforms, this matter has been debated over and over for a space of many years. While it has its advantages and disadvantages, people have their own opinions about them. Some may think it keeps the students from being able to express their selves, and it can make them feel uncomfortable even. While others believe it saves money and keeps the children focused on school work and that only. The main motives for school uniforms would be discipline, better educational performance and removing peer difference. Parents spend a lot of money on clothes at the beginning of each school year for their children. Kids like to keep up with the latest trends that they see and that can cost a pretty penny. Those designer clothes are pricey and they add up. It can put a lot of financial pressure on families, especially if those families have multiple children. For a child, that cannot afford the name brand clothing, they would appreciate the use of school uniforms. If schools invested in uniforms, parents would only have to buy one or two sets a year. If the costs between regular clothes and school uniforms were compared, the difference would be huge. Parents would save an enormous amount if they just bought school uniforms. There would also be more time saved because of them. Before each school year parents and kids spend days looking for a bunch of different clothes when all they would have to do is pick out the school uniform. It would be quicker and easier. Also, the time that they would have spent picking out clothes instead of a uniform, would be contributed towards something else. Time and money are valuable, it is important that one savors as much as they …show more content…
If all students in a school were wearing their school uniform, people would think that it looked good. It would look like the school is together and like they have unity. Unity is a very important thing to have in a school. In order to be successful sometimes people need to come together. It would almost feel like everyone in the school was a part of a sports team. Sports teams have their team jerseys on when they play and they work hard together. That is what a school should be like. It may be strange to think that just something as simple as a school uniform could do that, but it could. “The power of the uniform as a shared social symbol to instill a sense of group membership and encourage conformity,” John A. Huss stated in his article on school uniforms (Huss, Page 32). Modesty would also be a part of this. Each student would for sure be covered and be dressed appropriately everywhere they went.
