What’s more important: fixing bullying and violence in schools by enforcing student uniforms or having the problem continue and progressively get worse? School uniforms has been a controversial problem for years now and there are many pros and cons to go on either side. School uniforms restrict what clothing students can wear by enforcing a dress code involving only the uniforms. Studies have shown mixed results to if they are effective or not. Intruders are a major issue in certain schools mostly in city areas where a lot of crime and murder happens. With school uniforms being put into effect in schools the school intruder rate will reduce. Jack Murtha comments,“An intruder can easily be identified and removed in school or on school grounds before, during or after school hours,” because students are in uniform, said Lodi Superintendent Frank Quatrone, by email. “Police and law enforcement officials can immediately identify our children at the scene of an emergency situation” (Murtha L3). This shows that school uniforms help to improve school safety because when you make everyone wear the same thing, when someone comes in that isn't supposed to be there it can be easy to spot them immediately. It also helps with the fact that schools are more considerate with the facts of school intruders can happen more when school uniforms are involved. This is made a more solid safety hazard when the uniforms are put into effect and the police are involved so it can be easy for their emergency situations.
