School Uniforms Expository Essay

School wear has always been an important part of student life. Every academic year begins with a shopping adventure, and this enthusiasm continues whole year. In my view, high schools should require their students to wear school uniforms for two important reasons.

The main reason is that they should think about poor students. When they allow students to wear whatever they want, it will create a huge gap between rich and poor students in terms of brands and accessories. For example, I went a private high school that has lots of rich kids. It was mandatory to wear uniforms for 4 days of the week, but on Fridays we were allowed to wear whatever we wanted to wear. Every Friday was a huge pain for my poor friends who studied there with a scholarship.

Every year you only need to purchase a set of uniforms, and it is the total cost for that year. For example, when I was in high school, I only bought two sets of uniforms for the entire four years. It cost me about 100 TRY, and I hadn’t had any problems wearing them everyday for four year. However, as I stated before, we had uniform free Fridays. As we were allowed to wear what ever we want, I was shopping insanely every year just for Fridays. Of course, it added up to cost. I remember spending 2000 TRY for a semester. Because I needed to consider every detail such as accessories, shoes, and bags to compete with my classmates. I was wearing different things every time, and it was frustrating for me and for my family, who could barely afford my tuition. As you can see, you can just a uniform and use it for an entire year, so it cost you less. However, when it is free to wear whatever you want, you spend so much money on clothes.

In sum, some people may oppose the idea of mandatory uniform; however, I think high schools should really require their students wear it. Not only it protects poor students getting hurt by this decision but also it costs less for a student to wear uniforms instead of allowing them to decide what to wear. High schools should consider every aspect of the situation before doing such a
