Having an individual style is not distracting towards school. People do not get distracted from homework because of their clothes. Neither does it for school work! Students go to school every day for education. Making rules about what they wear every day just doesn’t make sense! Okay, it may take 5 minutes to pick out your outfit - maximum - but that does not affect the ability to learn. Successful students get good grades in school by paying attention in class, doing their homework and assignments, and being respectful to everybody else. Your clothes don't have anything to do with that! Students go to school to be educated. There are no statistics that show that school uniforms have anything to do with education, so why should they be required? “ The widest US study, by sociologist David Brunsma, found that there was no evidence that school uniform policies affected educational outcomes” (Sunday Business Post, 1). According to this quote, it shows that through studies, there is NO evidence that the student’s education is affected by school uniforms. That is another reason not to have school uniforms, because it does not affect the learner’s education and that is what they go to school for! It is part of your body! Clothes, accessories, tattoos, they are all part of a person’s property! their body belongs to them. These strict dress codes should not be able to tell people how to be themselves, or take away things from them! Some argue that hair color, tattoos, and piercings should not be controlled by schools. Some think that schools cannot tell people what to do with their own body, because its THEIRS! According to Toppo, 57% of America's public schools have strict school uniform codes! That means 57% of people in public schools in america have these limitations to dressing and their OWN bodies! There are many devastating stories about people who were banned from school because they did something to their own bodies, like getting a tattoo, or piercing. It is their body, so they can do whatever they want to it, as long as they take responsibility! “Kamryn Renfro, a nine-year-old girl from Colorado, shaved her head for her best friend who is going through chemotherapy. Renfro was suspended from school until her hair grew back, because shaved heads are against the school dress code. This girl was shamed for a brave act of compassion.
