School Uniforms School uniforms have been a controversial subject on whether students should wear them or not. There are many ways students can be conservative for school other than wearing a uniform. Therefore, I don’t think uniforms are necessary. School uniforms should not be mandatory because students should be able to express themselves, you pay more for certain uniforms, and it can affect one’s self-image. Students should be able to express themselves and uniforms take away their originality. Uniforms show even though you should be treated the same, you should also look the same. “They decided to teach us about people like Rosa Parks, Susan Anthony, and booker T. Washington… We learn about how these people expressed themselves and we can’t even express ourselves in the hallways.” (Sumter) Every student is different in their own way so with uniforms they can’t express their real …show more content…
Since students think uniforms are ugly, they’ll think they look ugly in them. “Students from schools without uniforms reported higher self-perception scores than students from schools with uniforms.” (Should) When someone can choose clothes they like on their body their confidence will be higher. “87.9% of the students were opposed to uniforms.” (Should) Why force uniforms if no one likes them? School uniforms should not be mandatory because students should be able to express themselves, you pay more for certain uniforms, and it can affect one’s self-image. Being able to show our true colors and originality is important to us as an individual. The money you waste on uniforms can be used for actual clothes and other necessities. Society makes everyone think they have to look a certain way and wear trendy clothes so ruining a child’s self-esteem with uniforms is wrong.
