The topic of wearing uniforms in school is a controversial one. In some schools in North America, the practice of wearing uniforms has become the norm. As a result, tension has been created between people who believe uniforms should be worn and people who believe uniforms should not be worn. There are those who believe that uniforms provide discipline and allow students to focus on their studies without worrying about making a fashion statement to enlighten others. On the other hand, there are those who believe that uniforms are unnecessary as students should be able to express their personality through clothes without restrictions. In a classroom, students will pay attention to the opposite sex and can be easily attracted to them due to their fashion appearance. Due to such, students will lack focus in their academic career and will perform poorly on evaluations. In uniformed schools, students will not be distracted easily because everybody will look the same. Students that pick their own clothes mainly do it so others would look at them. If students do not pick their own clothes to be popular, why do they? Students are often bullied for their appearance. Bullying will occur if students wear their own clothes. Students who bully pick on other innocent students who do not fit in with their perceived notion. If schools make uniform mandatory, then the students who bully will not bully since they and their victims will be wearing the same thing (nothing to bully about). Overall, the discussion of wearing uniforms in a school environment is disputable. There are two sides to the same coin. Some believe uniforms provide excellence in students while others do not. Nonetheless, uniforms should be present in every school in North America as they are cheaper to afford and can replace all the other clothes ensuring that fashion declaration is not mandatory, pursue a distraction-free environment, and limit bullying as best as it
