The transition from school to work can be intimidating to young people. They have finally reached a stage in their life that requires them to leave their comfort zone and step into the unknown. If I were to advise young people, I would suggest them to get into the mindset of becoming a professional and expect the unexpected, in which case have a backup plan. It is important to start early, prepare yourself by having everything you need ready to go before graduation. Throughout your education, I would suggest that you make yourself be known within your desired field by volunteering, interning, or as an employee. Gain experience and knowledge on how it is like to be working within your career field through the professional that you work with. This will not only help …show more content…
Perfect your resume and cover letter, make sure to run it through with career services who can provide you with suggestions to improve. Along with that, take advantage of any career building workshops that are offered to you in order to refine your skills. I would also suggest that you get references from the places that you have either worked or interned at.

The next step would be to look into job opportunities that are available and to start applying for them. It’s better to start applying for jobs earlier then waiting until after graduation. As I mentioned before, make sure to have a back-up. Have an idea of what you can do if things don’t go as planned during your transition from school to work. Be positive and have an open-mind, you need to be willing to put yourself out there and learn along the way.
