School Support Group

40% of LGBT+ youth are kicked out of their homes by their families, and almost 34,000 kill themselves each year. In fact suicide is four times more common for LGBT+ youth. The reason is usually bullying from school and home. Numerous schools have tried preventing this by creating support groups or strengthening their anti-bullying programs. This is why I believe our school could also benefit from having our very own LGBT+ support club.
First of all, starting this support club would help the other students understand the LGBT+ community more. As of right now, I hear many insults toward the LGBT+ in our school. Our students don’t think about if one of their fellow classmates may be a part of what they are insulting.

As they say, everyone is different, no two people are the same, but just because someone is different to you or others around them it doesn’t make them any less worthy. Everybody has the right to equality and this should be applied throughout, and not just in schools and colleges. The children I support are all different and they all have their own individual needs and ways of learning. I always work to accommodate their needs without embarrassing them or making them stand out to others. There are frameworks in place within school to support children and young people who may have additional needs when accessing the curriculum.…

Positive implications of School Resource Officers School Resource Officers (SRO) can provide supplemental leadership and improve relationships between law enforcement and youth. A SRO can deter criminal tendencies that may arise in the mind of adolescents by providing guidance through mentorship (fatherless youth with is prevalent in African American communities). Therefore, students can be kept in school after misbehaving rather than being suspended or expelled. Negative implications of School Resource Officers Some parents may feel as though SROs should not be stationed in schools because they carry a weapon which can jeopardize the safety of others if not properly handled. A shortage of police officers in the city of Ferguson can result…

Social services should be cut regardless of the status of our national debt. Social services are a form of socialism, are inefficient, and are one of the many ways in which the government massively oversteps it's jurisdictions. Even if our debt was $0.00, government provided social services should be completely deleted, permanently. Although many try to deny the facts, some left-wing politicians have admitted that social services constitute a form of socialism, and are a stepping stone to complete socialism.…

First off, I would propose that schools especially those in lower income areas and minority populated schools, create a school support organization. This organization would be aimed to tutor students academically, to mentor and guide these students to prepare them for college, and help them apply to colleges and scholarships. The purpose for this school organization, will be to allow our Latino students to have access to resources where they can ask questions and have help that they probably would not have elsewhere. Without someone to encourage them and allow them to see their possible long-term options, students will believe otherwise. The school program would be a safe place where students can feel comfortable and make friends.…

Although I know that this essay is not supposed to be of the persuasive kind, there is an issue that has been weighing on my mind as of late that I believe Roxbury Latin must address, and that is the lack of affinity groups on campus. As someone who is part of the LGBT community at an all-boys school, I have certainly felt excluded in some aspects of school life. People are not openly disrespectful to me or my community, at least not to my face, but I have certainly felt that far too often my presence has not been acknowledged. From discussions that we have in classes like personal development to assemblies that we have on topics pertinent to teens, whenever my community is discussed, it is always a sort of afterthought or not even included…

Roles & Planning Competing Values Framework Lens Within the Competing Values Framework, the administrative roles which are the most appropriate include facets of the north east quadrant of the two dimensional model, between flexibility and external focus. In addition, the role towards expansion applies with adaptability/readiness as a means and growth/resource acquisition as an end. The other role which applies is on the south east quadrant that is towards the maximization of output which entails a means of planning and goal setting with an end of productivity and efficiency (Edwards, 1987, p.6). Both of the roles are on the external focus spectrum with inclusion of flexibility and control. The founder/leader of My Best Friend’s Closet & LGBT Outreach & Thrift needs to balance these…

Two crucial aspects of obesity prevention are childhood and school-based interventions. The main purpose of this standard review was to evaluate the power and work ability of the school-based interventions performed in primary schools. I chose this topic because obesity rates have skyrocketed in the recent years. Social trends are what normally cause health conditions, socioemotional consequence, and academic consequence. If I give a child a doll that looks like them or their favorite stuffed animal , and have them modify the look of the doll as they lose weight.then the child will have a positive experience and really see the page.…

A current issue in education is the lack of support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students (LGBT). Transgender refers to a person’s gender identify--a person’s innate sense of being male, female, or somewhere in between( Banks& Banks, 2013). School are starting altering these practices: inviting same-sex couples to prom, providing gender neutral or individual bathrooms and locker rooms for transgender student, and including LGBT people and perspectives in the curriculum (McCollum, 2010). With acceptance, this population still face discrimination and prejudice. In school, LGBT students are harassed and bullied.…

I 've long held a desire to understand and help combat the mentally and emotionally detrimental aspects of our society and culture, It was born out of the death of my friend Aiden in high school He committed suicide after coming out as gay to his family, but not before his father threatened to disown him, his grandfather suggesting he join the Marines, his grandmother trying to "change his mind" with religion and his mother staying silent, he received everything except for what he truly needed, understanding, support and most importantly the feeling of unconditional love from the people that matter most and in the end it was all too much for him. The institutionalized homophobia in our society took him away, one of the most decent people I…

It seems so simple to love, that the comfort of attraction lends itself to everyone and that the subtleties of interest are selfsame, by instinct at least; even so, it’s said that we’re conditioned to love, but to me, it’s not that we’re conditioned to it as much as we’re in the condition of its capability, simply being human—to love’s as natural as life itself, as typical as sight or sound, as native as a thought of rationality. Trouble, then, comes about when love we know true doesn’t quite liken the love someone else experiences, from which differences and judgements then arise. This is true of many circumstances, but continues to be true for Americans who identify as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgendered)—that judgments of them…
