What would you rather have, a later or earlier start for school? Many students would like to have a later start time for school but if you think about it you would need to make up the time you slept in. Also many people believe that the only thing starting later would do is put more money into stuff we don’t need. Based on the article titled, “More zzz’s can lead to more A’s: Seattle Schools Move Start Time for Teens”, one believes that Beaumont High School should not change the start time to begin class later due to schedule changes, transportation, and sports schedule. First off, later start times for school will not only affect our school schedule but will also affect our sleep schedule. Many students are used to going to bed and …show more content…
For example many students parents go to work early in the morning and either have to walk to school or take the bus. If you change the school schedule you will have to get more buses because kids are not going to want to walk and one or two buses are not going to do the trick for around 2,000 students. “ It would cost St. Paul about $8 million to add more buses”(Associated press), the cost for buses for as many students as there are would be extreme. The quote also makes a good point which is that it would be millions of dollars to add buses but not only to St. Paul, but also to Beaumont high school. Later start times will lead to transportation issues but to other students the different start times of after school activities would be an even bigger issue. Personally, I believe that teens should not start later. Starting later in the day for school can lead to a destroyed schedule for extracurricular activities and sports. “Some argued that later start times would get in the way of after-school activities like football practice” (Associated Press). Many students have sports and clubs to go to after school and with the new late start of school the practice, clubs, and games would start to late and would just make the students even more tired than they already are. To sum up, later start times will play with all of after school activities and

I don’t think teenagers need that extra 45 minutes to help them with any of their academic or social choices because the later they start school the more possibilities they might not go. Also with the later class, teens get out of school later and gives them less time to socialize with friends or family or even having physical activities because their day ends a lot faster. With this new time start, many different organizations will be affected. It may affect families because they have less time with their teen kids.…

Should school start later in the morning? In my opinion, I think that school should start later in the morning for these three reasons the students nor the teachers will be so tired and want to sleep, students that drive would be less likely to get into an accident, and students and teachers would have more time to eat a healthy breakfast. I think starting school at a later time would be better for both teachers and students. We all know that one person that is always falling asleep in class it could be anyone, or it could be you! A lot of teens do sports, a job, or some other activities after school so that means you won’t get home till about 10, 11, or even 12 if you’re 18 and work a long shift.…

There are three reasons as to why school should start later then 8:00am. First, students are usually exhausted during their first period classes. Students typically go to sleep later at night because of school work and distractions such as their phones. They often have little to no energy in the mornings, which effects their listening and learning skills. Second, having a later wake up time in the mornings will give them more time to do things like eat (which a lot of teens do not do in the mornings), shower, and possibly complete some extra school work or studying.…

If people didn’t have to wake up as early more people would show up to school on time and that would mean they would learn more and get their work done. Teachers are always complaining about people not getting their homework in but I know that after I go to school then have cheerleading I don’t feel like going home and sitting doing tons of homework because I am wore out. School starting later will help everyone out as a whole. So, if school started later it would probably help the attendance of the whole school including the teachers.…

Kids will miss out on some after school sports and maybe even get hit by a car. Sports meetings are sometimes hours long, and after school, so if the school day starts later then there will be less time to figure out who's picking who up, practice, games. Plus, there would be less time to do homework and study for tests because kids are trying to do sports or after school activities. Kids are at risk of being hit by a car because they would be walking home during the dark and might get hit by a car or school bus on its way to drop off other kids on their way home. If school started earlier kids would be at risk of being hit by a car and missing out on after school activities and sports, if it didn't, then there would be less car incidents and kids would have time to do sports or other activities after school.…

In a 2012 survey of 39,700 American middle and high schools, the average starting time was 8:03 (Center for Disease Control). The American Academy of Pediatrics, an organization focused on the health of adolescents, suggests a starting time of no earlier than 8:30 for both middle and high schools, showing nearly a half-hour difference between the actual and recommended start time. The analysis of public school start times proves a disconnection between current start times and expert recommendations of an adequate time to start the day. A shocking 42 out of 50 states reported that between 75%-100% of public schools started before the recommended 8:30 (Center for Disease Control). This widespread break in the recommended start time has a profound…
