Public Education across the United States has been under attack for several years. Parents want school districts, administrators and teachers to be accountable for their children’s education; however, they do not want to finance their schools. School districts are forced to work with the income they have. This income varies from district to district and state to state. Affluent districts across the United States have larger budgets than poor districts causing great inequalities in students’ education.…
The two Connecticut school districts sit side by side along Long Island Sound. Both spend more than the national average on their students. They prepare their pupils for the same statewide tests. Their teachers, like virtually all the teachers in the state, earn the same high marks on evaluations. That is where the similarities end:…
Godfrey Hodgson stated that the economic inequality has increased so dramatically since 1970 because of changes to the market and powerful conservative Republicans ability to dominate over the economy since President Nixon’s presidency. The economy that was prevalent since the New Deal was changed so it could focus on the free market (Hodgson 16-20). During 1945 to 1970 wages and standard of living increased at a significant pace but as the 1970s came the economy had high unemployment, high inflation and standard of living was at a stand still (Smith, Lecture Notes, week 2). Americans that were employed not only suffered because wages were not increasing but also because of the decrease in retirement benefits and the lack of health insurance…
Every school has structure which includes a group of people who work together to achieve a goal. Structure defines how tasks are divided, grouped, and, coordinated. There are many major positions in each school district. In Burrillville RI, there are five schools located in the district. There is one school for pre-k, two for elementary, one middle school, and one high school.…
Public school funding has been an ongoing issue for years. No matter how wealthy the district is, there can be an issue for all when the funds are not distributed fairly. Without enough funds from the government, schools cannot provide adequate supplies for the classroom, cannot provide sufficient transportation cost and cannot pay salaries to those involved in the school district such as teachers and administration. Public school funding also helps provide reduced and free meals to students who qualify. What a lot of people don’t know is where all of this money is coming from and who is paying for it.…
Public schools have to confront the challenges that they face when they go into poverty. These types of schools have to fend for themselves as they have been left behind by the school system. Schools are lacking in resources and so the students are also left behind as well. They are stuck with their outdated textbooks, and teachers have to pay for school supplies out-of-pocket. As a result of this, teachers have to find a way to get students their supplies without having to spend too much.…
Given is the pie chart illustrating the expense in average that each household in the US allocated in six areas in 1970 and 2004. Overall, while mortgage is the most prioritized field of families in the US in both years, the bottom position of childcare sector in 1970 made room for transport field in 2004. It is noticeable that the money allocated to mortgage and childcare bounced tremendously. As can be seen from the charts, 50 % of expense were disbursed in mortgage in 2004, doubling the proportion of money in 1970 and occupied a half of total spending for all sectors. More interestingly, the rate of childcare in 2004 was 10%, ten times higher than that in 1970.…
Government assistance programs liability may increase from the current status. The federal liability could rise and double from current. Many economists anticipate aging boomers to create chaos in the housing market because a large percentage will remain in his or her home versus selling it. People are concerned that as million of Baby Boomers acknowledge retirement age will hinder America’s workforce. Fear of approaching labor shortage because of Baby Boomers retirement is reality.…
The federal minimum wage is the lowest amount of money a wage earner can earn. Each state has a minimum wage, too, but it can’t go below the federal limit. Some people disagree as to whether or not it’s enough to live on. I don’t think the federal minimum wage should be increased. There are several reasons that support my claim.…
Those who were born in the United States between 1946 and 1964 are known as baby boomers. The baby boom is defined as having occurred during the peak years of this roller coaster ride: its legacy was a population bulge destined to leave its imprint on each phase of the life cycle (MacUnovich). Baby boomers represent the largest generational birth cohort in United States history, making about 76.5 million in total (MacUnovich). Though there is no definitive answer, some effects that were stated to attribute the birth increase during the baby boom generation, were the antiwar movement, an increase in crime rates, and the development of the women’s movement (Kirszner). The baby boom generation is often characterized as a generation of optimism,…
Public School Funding Throughout the years, many states in America such as Arizona have experienced a decrease in public school funding due to a decline in taxes and a lack of financial resources. This has created many issues with the quality of a public school education. The current lack of financial support has decreased the ability to provide the necessary resources for our schools. This is the biggest obstacle for public schools in Arizona and many states across the nation.…
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 2.6 million people in the US earn the hourly wage of $7.25 or under. There have been many changes to the minimum wage throughout the years and the latest bill concerning this is the S. 1832. Better known as the Pay Workers a Living Wage Act was a bill, it would have raised the minimum wage through a period of several years (GovTrack). The bill addressed both increases of minimum wage as well as tips (GovTrack). I will be focusing on the minimum wage where tips are not concerned.…
The government needs to consider other areas of their budget to cut in order to ensure more funding to schools. Tax payers and voters also need to vote yes on renewals, replacements, and even new levies. By doing all these, schools will receive more funding. This funding can help enrich the school district’s academics, but it can also boost teacher pay. Teachers are merely overpaid, yet they are underpaid.…
However, the school district was able to be creative during this financial recession, and they made a way to keep people working by assigning them (teachers and other…
