one mass shooting happens a day on average. This number needs to change. In 2017, in Las Vegas, Stephen Paddock broke the window of his hotel and open fired on a country music concert. He injured over 500 people and killed 59. It is the worst shooting in the history of America. He had a total of forty guns, thirty-three of which were in his hotel room. He bought all of these guns legally and had a legal rifle extension. The police cannot track who he bought these guns from because you do not have to take a background check. Why have we not seen this coming? You can just open fire on anybody in the States and anybody can do it. It's just too easy. Florida doesn't require fingerprints, a special permit, or any waiting period to buy a gun. This is common in some parts of the U.S. where you can walk into a store and walk out with a semi-automatic gun in your hand in minutes. In Virginia, you can buy a semi-automatic gun in 15 minutes. Roanoke Firearms, which is where Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 in a shooting on Virginia Tech's campus, bought a Glock after passing two background checks. It took a reporter from a newspaper seven minutes to buy an AR-15, the semi-automatic gun used in many of the U.S. deadliest mass shootings. But gun buyers don't have to go through a background check when they make a purchase at a gun show. Most Americans live somewhere near a gun show. The web site www.gunshows-usa.com has 29 gun shows scheduled for this coming weekend, from Las …show more content…
is extremely outdated laws. In 1775 the thirteen colonies of the U.S. were extremely unhappy with the British policies and declared their independence. This led to the American Revolution, in which the newly formed United States of America defeated the British and made them leave the United States. This is the foundation of gun laws. Guns are legal in the U.S. so that they can overthrow their government if they need to because the thirteen colonies needed to and they did because they had guns. This is completely absurd. The United States is literally spending 886 billion this year on their military effort. How do you think you are going to overthrow a government military that has a net worth of 78 trillion. The government has nuclear weapons, fighter jets, tanks and much more against a semi-automatic weapon. What are they thinking? But one thing to remember is that in the law that was passed about the right to bear arms is it specifically states that no Congress can change this law. Obama tried very hard to change this but it was not changed. And with Mr. Trump in office, it doesn't look like it is going to change soon even though it must change, and soon. After every mass shooting or school shooting there is an outcry for change but it never happens. This needs to change. The U.S. needs to vote out people influenced by the NRA (National Rifle Association) and vote in people that actually care about their people and

Ever since the Sandy Hook shooting in late 2012, it has become glaringly apparent an alarming amount of the United States’ populace and lawmakers would sooner sacrifice the lives of children than ever dare consider the idea of constricting some of the freedom a gun carries. It might be a tad bit of an overgeneralization, and obviously very few would ever admit to believing they fall into that category, but the history of gun violence in the US shows the lack of attempts and resistance to improved weapon laws speaks louder than their words. Following the aforementioned shooting at Sandy Hook in 2012, there has been roughly 63 school shootings, give or take, ranging from only one being injured to over a dozen being murdered. After all these…

Over the past few years there has been an escalation in the use for guns. One reason for why this might be happening is because the guns are being used for mass school shootings, such as: the Sandy Hook shooting, the Parkland shooting, and many others that people don't even know about. This problem has now caused a controversy over whether teachers should carry guns while working in school or not. Many people believe that the only way to defend children during these shootings is if the staff carry guns. Although this idea seems to have many great advantages against shooters, it also opens room for more issues involving the children and the teachers.…

According to the article I just read “Just five of Every town’s 18 school shootings listed for 2018 happened during school hours and resulted in any physical injury.” Though the actual number of school shootings aren’t a tremendous number like 18, it still highlights the fact that school shootings is a hefty problem. Regardless of the other 13 incidents that are not actually being counted as a school shooting is still a firearm being fired on school campus can still leave a student very scared like the article stated, for example “A month ago, for example, a group of college students were at a meeting of a criminal-justice club in Texas when a student accidentally fired…

The report noted that there was an average of 16.4 shootings per year from 2007 to 2013 compared to 6.4 shootings per year from 2000 to 2006 (U.S. Dept. of Justice Report). Since mass shootings in the United States fall under such a broad spectrum, it is nearly impossible to keep track of all the incidents that actually do occur in the United States. Mass shootings produce a huge risk to the security of American citizens in the United States. The growing popularity of such events and the magnitude of their destruction calls for a revaluation of the way these crimes are classified and subsequently…
