On Valentine’s Day, a former student walked into Parkland High School, Florida and shot 14 students and 3 staff members,” my friend informed me. I couldn’t believe what I was ry hearing. After students heard about the school shooting they wanted to protest for gun control, so our school had a walkout day. I already knew that gun violence is the #1 cause of deaths in America, but I didn’t know that it is so common in High School. I wanted to know more about the causes of gun violence in High School. What’s something that government can do to prevent School Shooting? How can we get safe environment in School? How many people own guns illegally? Will my family and friends be safe in School? I made a list of the things that I wanted to …show more content…
As I start reading the article, I found out that it was about the injuries and death caused by shooting. I felt positive about the article, but as I continue reading it I figured out that there were no specific information about School Shooting injuries or deaths. Luckily, Alter’s website had some great links that I found really helpful. I came by a really good webpage called “Firearms and Crimes” and it has really good graphs and its statistics on the ways in which guns are used to commit crimes in School. The interesting thing about this site is that the information is came from the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the U.S. Department of Justice. The thing that caught my attention was a graph that indicates, “54% of the directed assaults against postsecondary” caused by shooting (Alters).
I was so happy with my research so far, but I wanted to find something that shows how shooting in school affects students’ grade overall. Again, I start typing like “School shootings effects on Students” and “School Shootings vs Grades”, but I didn’t find any trusted sources. Then, I went back to the article called “Gun-Related Injuries and Fatalities” and checked out some links provided below.
