As a new psychologist in a school system my desire would be to reflect the School Psychologist awareness week to promote services to connect students to academic and social-emotional skills they need to develop secure and positive mental health skills. The school I work at serves many love SES and ESL families and money is not readily available. To achieve my goal, I would do the following activities to promote preventive and applicable mental health awareness activities. To start with, I would want to present a genuinely caring and supporting environment within the school. My collaborative relationships with administration, teachers, and support staff would be seen as positive to all that enter into the school building. This would include outside visitors, parents, student, and co-workers. I would greet as many students and school staff as possible daily as they enter school. This would not only give positive interaction with an adult to the children, but provide a role model for appropriate social behavior for the students to …show more content…
I would outreach to the community by handing out Psych awareness posters in the community. Places would include the health department, CSB, SS offices, grocery stores. These posters would be presented in the English and the language of the ESL students. I would also call the local community service providers and try to spear head local outreach activities with the prevention coordinator. Community activities at the park, library, or community centers. These activities would target but not be limited to students with low SES or ESL skills. Many community service boards have funds and a coordinator specifically for helping school aged children. Connecting with them would provide funding and a broader field of
