After 18 years of being in my parents’ house, 13 years of schooling with 4 years of high school, I had to face the daunting questions of life every senior in high school has to think about. What am I going to do after I graduate? Do I want to go to college? What do I want to do with my life? How am I going get there? I came to the conclusion that Thrive School of Leadership would be a good first step for me. I would work at an internship in a church in California for a school year and that would be my first step toward my dream job of working in a church, eventually going overseas to do rehabilitation work with orphans. Those nine months in Thrive School of Leadership changed my life. I didn’t even know at that point that I needed a safe place to learn about myself and that it is okay to fail. I was taught in classes and meeting every week then expected to put those strategies into practice. For example, one week I was encouraged to figure out ways to apply the budgeting class I had taken notes on the week before. From then on, I was included in the process of actively adjusting the budget with my leaders. In my internship, I got a lot of relevant experience in my desired career path and learned well. I was constantly given feedback and encouraged to look at the situation and see what I could do better for next time. Getting relevant experience is the second most important quality that employers consider when hiring an intern according to interships.com. We always were trying to grow, to get better, to become better leaders while increasing the success of the organization in our designated areas and as a whole.
