School Of Failure Essay

My education has been a large component of my life from a very young age. Through the many years of my schooling, there have been many ups and downs that have shaped and molded me into the student that I am today. After reading “The School of Failure”, I realize that many of the struggles that have been accompanied with my educational history are more common than I previously had thought. I have also found that within “The School of Failure”, there is a common issue with the lack of communication between teachers and students. Along with my own educational history and the information from the reading assignment, there is a link between the absence of effort and communication, and students having negative educational experiences. High school was a turning point in my educational career. Before high school I had gotten through each class with little to no effort and was able to keep my grades above the average. Within the reading there is a part where the child mentions an educator that that is “on his phone all day, talkin’ about he don’t need this job.”(Watkins) This directly reminded me of my first attempt at taking Algebra II and how careless the teacher had been when it came to all of the students’ success. I am not going to go far enough to say that my negative experiences with school mirror the article’s issues, but I recognize that the issues of school systems not caring about their students is a familiar matter. The article exclaims, “our schools are broken, our schools are broken!’ But are they?
