Here are somethings that I would change about the school lunches.
I would start with homemade meals, then have like a pizza bar or salad bar, and the most important thing I would do would get a soda and gatorade machine.

Here is the first thing I would do to fix the school lunches, I would make homemade meals.
I would like homemade meals because as we all know most of the food we eat at school is heated up from packages. And we all know homemade meals are better than packaged food. Now I am not saying “ Go and buy a whole bunch of ingredients and make everything from scratch.” I am saying it would be nice to have the main meal homemade and freshly cooked so we would have to go the whole day with just eating not that good of

The 1946 National School Lunch Act, which later led to the creation of the National School Lunch Program was a policy act made in response to the growing concern of hunger in the United States. Led by Senator Allen Allender of Louisiana and signed by President Harry Truman, the NSLP proposed to safeguard the health and well-being of the Nation’s children, while supporting the consumption of agricultural good. Even though, the NSLP’s goals was to provide for the safety of the children, the administration created many problems for the children including food insecurity and stigmatization. Thus, in this paper, I intend to follow the history of the NSLP, its characteristics and its general efficiency in responding to food insecurity. In addition,…

Today schools offer school lunches to all students attending public school. Many students can decide whether or not to eat it, but many decide not to eat at all during lunch. They wait until they get home to eat whatever they want. There are many ways to encourage students to eat a good lunch at school. One way that can really help change this issue of students not eating at school is to remove the price of buying lunch at school. If this proposal is encouraged many students will eat more at school than at home.…

Have there been a time where you had disgusting school lunch? Like for example one day I ate pizza and it was greasy ,and it was antarctica cold, not well cooked and smells nasty, and was disgusting as prison food. Now I refuse to eat any other school meal I will be starving until school ends to go home and eat. Just 9 percent of students served nutritious lunches did the same”. School lunch often gives you food, milk, and a side. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day for some students that eat less it doesn't bother them but for the students that it eat more, Six chicken bites isn't enough and will not fill the students up. It was just a plain, greasy pizza, an apple juice, and a small carton of white milk. That's not enough…

With off campus lunch students can spend their money on what they actually want. “School lunches don’t have the best reputation, especially in the United States. The food is pre planned and often not exactly…good” (Lombardo 1). Most students what to spend money on something they have a taste for instead of the non processed food that are given at schools. Which may not satisfy their taste buds. Off campus lunches even help bring money into the economy. “Off campus lunch can be viewed as a valuable revenue stream for local businesses. One ‘highly profitable’ fast food location up for sale advertised in 2007 as a factor in its value that it is located next to ‘a high school which allows off campus lunch time to their students.’ These businesses may in turn make donations or otherwise support the school” (Marlo R. 4). When students get food from local restaurants it not only benefits them but it benefits the schools as…

School lunches are making an effect on students and unfortunately not a good one, this has to change and I know the perfect way to change it. I have gone to school now for about 12 years, and in those years I have come to an agreement that school lunches need to be improved. I remember wanting to go to lunch in 8th grade because the food was tasteful and pleasant, although now I realize it lacked an important aspect, the food having any nutritional value. As I got older I started to dislike the food that was given at school and I would dismiss the idea of lining up for lunch because I knew the food wasn’t going to be good. My friends and I gave up on eating school lunch and started eating out to places like the gasoline store or Mc. Donald…

“School food is something that most kids, 31 million a day, actually- have twice a day, more than often, breakfast and lunch, 180 days of the year” (Oliver). Although so many children eat this food every day, the state of the school lunches in America are horrendous. America already has the highest obesity rate in the world and teaching future generations that eating desserts, french fries, and pizza every day is unhealthy and not to mention unintelligent. These foods are filled with preservatives, fats, and sugars. School lunches need to be improved because they encourage improper and unhealthy diets.…

A morning edition of national public radio, titled, “Lunch Ladies Want Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act to Lighten Up” featured Jean Ronnie, president of the School Nutrition Association. I chose this because Ronnie works directly with schools, lunch ladies and makes a lot of the recipes for school lunch herself. Ronnie described one of the students favorite meals, “Fresh roasted chicken, cornbread that 's homemade, apple kohlrabi slaw and strawberries” that can no longer be served because of the sodium content. This rule among many other restricts snack and meal options for schools and students. I personally love having healthier options to choose from in the vending machines. While my brother feels like healthy eating is being shoved down his throat and sometimes resorts to bringing food from home to school. As of last year, one million students stopped buying school lunch and this number of students seems to be increasing. As food costs and labor costs rise, the schools are losing money on the cafeteria programs, and consequently have to dip into the general fund, the fund that supports classrooms. As the standards for school lunches increase, so do the costs and consequently the classroom budget. By dipping into funds for classrooms, schools are forced to put more emphasis on nutrition than in academic resources. The emphasis can be viewed both positively, and negatively. After all, proper nutrition is a basic human need and the better fulfilled it is, the stronger the foundation for other endeavors is. On the other hand, the reduction of resources from the classroom can affect the learning process itself. The only thing that is clear is that menu options are being reduced and schools have to adjust…

You really have to want to eat and be healthy it’s really all boiled down to a want from yourself to do it. For starters you need to set out a meal plan to get started and if it was up to me I would start on the first day of the month it’s easier to keep track of it. That’s how schools do it they set out the lunch schedule for the whole month and they stick to it. Most of our lunches at the school are good and I usually don’t get concession unless I don’t get enough to eat for lunch. An offensive lineman isn’t going to get full off of 1 hot dog and a hashbrown. “Select a healthy eating pattern that meets nutrient needs over time at appropriate calorie level. Account for all foods and beverages consumed and assess how they fit within a total healthy eating pattern. Follow food safety recommendations when preparing and eating foods to reduce risk of foodborne illness”(Dwyer 159) Selecting a healthy eating pattern can prevent you from getting any type of foodborne illness or nutrition-related…

Situation: In all of the high schools around the world there are disappointed students because of the kind of cafeteria food that is being served daily. Some students are not eating the breakfast and lunch that they need simply because of the unpleasant food the schools serve. Another issue is the amount that they are serving. I know you have to have enough for everyone but what are they doing with the leftovers? Throwing them away right? Wasting Food? Wasting Money? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day we all were told. However, if the students do not eat then they will most likely do not so good in school. Food gives us energy and the students are not getting any…

Many students look forward to their lunch period as a chance to eat, socialize with their friends, and take a break from classwork. Although for many students this is not a social event, school lunch is their only meal of the day. Recently, students have begun to dread lunch because of the quality of food. They are starving throughout the day because of the poor quality of our lunches.…

The major problem that everyone recognizes is how unhealthy our lunches are. We are served processed foods that are high in fats, sodium, and sugars. All foods are processed in some way, but the food we usually think of as processed has been chemically processed. That means that is it made from artificial substances and refined ingredients. Processed foods are one of the top causes for obesity in the US. “A recent study found that children who regularly ate school lunches were 29 percent more likely to be obese than their peers who brought lunch from home” (Reader’s Digest Editors). Accordingly, if the school is going to provide lunch, it should be benefiting our health.…

A little snack or meal goes a long way with a student’s education, and breakfast is where it should all start. If breakfast can be provided for all students in our public schools, then teachers and parents will see an increase in their child’s education. To help with the funding of meals to eligible recipients, I propose schools have their own food drive. Families that are able, can donate nonperishable items to their local school where that food can be used for the school breakfast. Another great resource to use, is by going to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website, and looking at their School Breakfast Program service they provide, also known as SBP. This program sends “cash assistance to states to operate nonprofit breakfast programs in schools.” Anyone can apply for this program, and if a family falls under a certain income, they may be titled to cash assistance. (School Breakfast Program SBP). Schools that choose to participate in this program will receive subsides from the USDA and must serve breakfast that meets federal requirements. Having the breakfast meet federal requirements will ensure a student to be receiving a healthy meal to get them on the right track for the morning. There are many steps that the community can take to get the county involved in its own breakfast…
