School Lunch Time Research Paper

Everyday at 11:34, the students race to lunch. They wait in long lines, eat “fake” food, and then have to scarf it all down in 35 minutes. Although they have a decent amount of time, the lunch system could be greatly improved. If the students had more time, more options, and better food, lunchtime would be a much more exciting time of the day.
First, students need more time to eat their lunch. I personally believe that 35 minutes is not enough time to eat, especially when you have to wait in a lengthy line. Standing in the line takes up at least ten minutes of your lunchtime. Giving the students at least ten more minutes would allow them to socialize and have the break they deserve. I know from experience, students like having that time to relax

Of course more options would already make lunch better, we need better food. It almost seems like the lunch program is hypocritical because they encourage healthy, unprocessed food, yet, they feed us frozen and processed food. I believe if the lunch program would put in a little more time and effort to make their food more fresh and natural, everyone would be happier. Also, it would be more cost effective to make their food other than buy big bulk packages of frozen chicken patties. The lunch program would also have much more service. I can say from experience, fresh and natural food is better than frozen and processed food. It would also give the students a lot more energy and be healthier all around. Better quality food must be an upgrade if the lunch program wishes to keep business.
. Students enjoy the time of day when they get to sit down, eat, and socialize with their peers. When students are forced to scarf down their food, eat frozen and processed food, and choose between two options, this time of the day becomes less enjoyable. I think that with a few easy changes, the lunch program could be much more enjoyable to students, teachers, and lunch

The quality of school lunches has been a debated topic throughout this past decade. While some are advocating for healthier lunch options for students, others would prefer that lunch options stay fairly the same to offer a more diverse selection of foods. The opinion article “Healthy School Lunches Under Attack: Our View” written in 2015 by USA Today is a prime example of those in favor of healthier school lunches, and on the opposing side, “Provide Flexibility in the Lunchroom: Opposing View” written by the president of the School Nutrition Association Jean Ronnei in 2015, is an article discussing the possibility of school lunch mandates going too far. The articles provide interesting points on both sides of the argument, however, after reading both articles…

You would think that students would leave lunch with full stomachs and empty trays, but that is not the case anymore. The government has now imposed restrictions on school lunches that has made the food served unappetizing to many students. These restrictions require limited calories, fats, sugars and sodium while emphasizing fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy and proteins. This causes there to be very limited tasty options for school cafeterias to serve. Because of this it has resulted in negative responses from students and school districts. The government should not impose restrictions on school lunches because it has resulted in less students eating lunch at school, food being wasted, and the lunches not filling students up.…

In School Revisits High School Open Lunch Policy for 2013, Catherine Martin also mentioned that by students having this opportunity they will be better prepared for later life. With students having a very limited time to get their food and return to the school they will have to take many factors into consideration. The students will first have to think about how long it will take them to get out of the parking lot, since it will be relatively slow with everyone trying to leave at once. Next they will have to find out how long it will take to reach the desired restaurant or convenience store, and once they are there, how long it will take the restaurant to prepare and serve the food. Their last step would be to figure out how long it would take to eat the food and return to school. As well as practicing time management skills, students would have to opportunity to practice financial responsibility by figuring out how much they can spend a week and still make money from either a job or even their…

When students were in elementary, they were use to walking over to the lunchroom and eating at their own pace. Now in middle school, they have to rush to the lunchroom and engulf their food in 25 minutes to get back to class on time. Many people are tired after gym or whatever classes that they were in and want to enjoy a meal and have a break from all the stressful craziness of their schedules. Coalgate middle school should have a longer lunch period.…

Lunch is currently 50 minutes long; juniors and seniors are allowed to leave campus. This gives students time to leave campus to get lunch at places such as McDonalds, Subway and the local convenient stores. Often times the upperclassmen bring food back to the lower classmen as well. The following numbers are based off the sign out sheets in the office. About 80% of the upperclassmen currently leave campus to get food elsewhere. And about 50% of the lowerclassmen either bring food from home or they have fellow classmates bring them lunch. The reason for this is that the meals simply are not enticing students to stay. While a large number of the students do qualify for free or reduced lunches, about 30% do not. That is 30% of students that could be purchasing school lunches but instead are going off campus. Even students that qualify for the free and reduced lunches, avoid eating the cafeteria…

It would also serve to lessen the gap between students and teachers. A point of contention between the two has always been the freedoms allocated to teachers. While it is understood that teachers will always have more freedom, students want what is arguably the most attainable one: the ability to leave campus for their lunch period. It seems hypocritical at best to allow teachers, most of whom also have ‘active’ periods after lunch, to leave without doubting their ability to return in…

The term “school lunch,” has had a negative connotation ever since I can remember. There’s much more to school lunch than gourmet salads or mystery meat. All over the United States schools serve lunch to a variety of different students, with different backgrounds, age groups and income. Just in one school the systematic arrangement of the lunch ladies and the policies set in place are just tiny specs of a much larger picture. The fact of the matter is, as children are developing they are being programmed and prepped for the rest of their lives. Before anything else, humans need to have their basic needs met. And without the proper nutrients, a child’s ability to grow and learn is inhibited. I remember there were certain rules both the workers…

The students should get more than 30 minutes to eat with 600 students in each lunch. You wait in line for 20 minutes to only get to eat for 10 minutes. This is not far for the students with only having one lunch room. We should make another cafeteria like Allen so the kids are spread out throughout the school and not trying to buy from the same vendor and sit in the same room. There aren’t enough tables in our lunch room, either. Kids have to sit outside and when the weather is bad, everyone is trying to cram into a lunch room that is almost to capacity. Having off campus lunch will help with the room in the school. I understand the risk of the having off campus and that having kids driving around could be dangerous, but it is better the…

As the bell rings students race to get in line for lunch to make sure they actually have enough time to sit and eat their food. It takes about 20 minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell you that you are full but students only get around 20 minutes to walk from class to the cafeteria, wait in line, and start eating. The amount of time for lunch isn’t enough and students are taking in too many calories too fast. Most students only have about 10 minutes to eat by the time they sit down.…

What is the rule I am proposing to change? Lunch time is the main thing that I think should be extended out so the students have time to eat. Currently our lunch period is from 11:50 till 12:20 so that’s only a half an hour! So what happens to the students who want to eat out or go off campus? They have to rush themselves to the front of the restaurant, order quickly and hope your food comes out within minutes of ordering. Hamilton High School is just a few miles south of our school and they have a 40 minute lunch, with a shortened nutrition break. Most of the schools in Montana start earlier and school also gets out early too! Somehow they find a way to have a longer lunch than we do and I think that needs to change!…

Some can say that school food is okay and some of the food is but the only healthy food at lunch is the fruits and vegetables but that isn 't a meal to satisfy a student.“Sadder than destitution, sadder than a beggar is the man who eats alone in public.
