School Lunch Research Paper

There are hundreds of students at Sierra Vista High School that eat school lunch every day. For some students, the school lunch is the only thing they eat until they get home, and it is sad that most times the students are utterly disappointed at the food they are being served. The students wait in line to get their lunch, and are severed burnt or raw hamburgers, fries that don’t look that they are made of potatoes and many other disgusting food choices. The lunches that are served at the school cause many to turn to other alternatives when eating at school. Most of the food that Sierra Vista serves looks as if it requires little to no effort to make. Much of the food that is served looks like microwaveable food that requires no effort to make other than to take it out of a freezer and letting it thaw before putting it into a microwave oven and serving it to students. These scholars are noticing the cheap bread, meats, and poultry that are used for the burgers or the “potatoes” that are used for the fries and the baked potatoes. There have been multiple instances of pink or undercooked patties that have been served to these students. There have also been occasions where the patty and the cheese had been burnt on to the food wrapping. Indicating that these “cooks” are placing the food into the ovens with the food wrapping rather than cooking fresh food from scratch. According to Sarah from The Healthy Home Economist “The national school lunch program is nothing more than a dumping ground for agricultural commodities that subsidy supported industrialized farms dispose of on the government. Only the cheapest, most nutritionless, most highly processed garbage food makes the cut for the school lunch program.” (Sarah) Sarah is insisting that the food that severed at schools are cheap disgusting food that is highly processed and because of this, most of the students are refusing to eat any of it. Instead, the students are looking for other options, whether that be leaving school completely and getting fast food which is very unhealthy. Some students prefer to not eat at all which isn’t any better than eating fast food. There is no denying the fact that the students despise the food that is offered to them mainly because of how disgusting it is. Nobody would eat food that has burnt cheese or a hamburger that has pink meat, and because of this more students are going out to eat at fast food
