Grains that are contained in the school lunches have to have at least 51% of whole grain or wheat. This includes anything from cookies, to pastas (Duffy, 2014). The government is offering schools on the lunch program some healthy options, but it is still very challenging to find these whole grain products for a decent price and in large quantities (Wolfgang, 2014). 90% of schools stated that have have had occurrences with at least one problem while preforming in this program. According to “Tossing The First Ladies Lunch” this program is hard to follow and very unpopular. And more students are starting to pack. The program is helping students to eat healthier and make better choices. It is very hard when schools are trying to make each lunch fit within the guidelines, and when they do a lot of this food just ends up getting wasted. Many of the kids are disliking the taste of the whole grain foods (Duffy, 2014). One freshman kid from Huntington North High School did not like them because they were whole grain (Duffy, 2014). Most of the grains served in the school lunches are whole grain, and the children aren’t enjoying them. If schools wanted to avoid the downsides of the school lunches they should pull out of this
