Bang, the weight of tears dripping down a mothers face, a community in silence, a son or daughter lost. Guns have become the main character in a story that seems to be seen everyday. Mass school shootings has become the new norm for America people. President Obama once said after a shooting in an Oregon Community College in early October 2015, "Somehow this has become routine. The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine, the conversation in the aftermath of it ... We have become numb to this”. Since the Columbine shooting, a high school in Littleton, Colorado, mass shooting has become a trend for Americans. Guns need to be off schools and college campuses. No one, school safety officers nor students should have the right to carry a concealed weapon.
The first time guns were seen on a campus as weapons of mass destruction was at Columbine High School. Two high school students decided to walk into school with full body armor and multiple guns and shot to kill. Campus safety officers are trained to handle situations were guns are on a campus. Campus safety officers have to protect students, faculty, and visitors on college campuses. They will know if it would ever be necessary to control a situation like they one that happened in Virginia Tech. The Virginia Tech shooting happened on April 16, 2007, on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. Seung-Hui Cho, a senior at Virginia Tech, shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 others in two separate attacks approximately two hours apart, before committing suicide. Campuses safety officers were not well prepared because if they were 32 people would have never died in the
