School Dropout Rates

Decent Essays
Hi, Myracl! The school dropout rates have declined over the years, but there are still some children who go unnoticed. More children seem to drop out doing their senior year and the second highest is the junior year. The children today are faced with being harassment and bullied by other children. Myracl, I don’t believe that the bill will be a waste of time in face I think the bill will be very helpful. A high school diploma is a big accomplishment to achieve even if the child decides not to go to college. Myracl, I think the bill will have no problem passing. Great Post!

Since the DREAM Act does not provide funding to states and counties to cover imposing costs, the act’s passage will require tuition increases, tax increases to expand enrollment, or a reduction in spaces available for American citizens at these schools (Camarota). About half a million new alien students are estimated to enroll in public institutions soon after the DREAM Act is passed, with another half million enrolling over the next decade and a half (Camarota). The United States would be rewarding undocumented immigrants and be taking education spots away from well-deserving American students, making it more difficult for them to obtain financial aid and or scholarships. Steven Camarota adds in his article "Estimating the Impact of the DREAM Act" that tuition hikes will be difficult for students because many Americans already find it difficult to pay for college, as research indicates that one-third of college students drop out before earning a degree and costs are a major reason for that dropout rate. Lawmakers need to consider that the DREAM Act will create strains and negatively affect the educational opportunities available to American citizens by adding roughly one million students to state universities and community colleges (Camarota).…

Whereas the government only spends about 8,000 per student, so they can get an education. The money that will be going towards jails, housing, food, etc.. the government will be sucking out money from schools, hospitals, seniors, taxpayers etc.. to make up for the expense. It really doesn’t make sense that we even need this bill, since a survey says that the crime rate in Canada is at it’s lowest since before 2000. Texan conservatives Judge John Creuzot, Republican Representative Jerry Madden, and Marc Levin also spoke out against the bill; according to Madden, "It's a very expensive thing to build new prisons and, if you build them, I guarantee you they will come. They'll be filled, OK?…

People should vote yes to prop 51 because their kids and grandkids will be able to learn in a clean and stable facility. The passing of prop 13 back in 1978 resulted in a lot of unintended causes for the school system. Some people felt indifferent about voting for the prop, with their reasoning being that they do not have any children. We need to be looking at the bigger picture though, regardless if those thirty something year olds do not have kids it will affect them in fifteen years when these children are sent out to the work field to attend them. The impact of socieeconomic status and poverty in the American education is tremendous and really cannot be missed. “In California right now, the average cost to support a prisoner for one year is 27,000 dollars, we have a little under 6,000 to support a student for a year” (“The Merrow Report: First to Worst”).…

“It is absurd and unjust that young Americans can vote, marry, enter contracts and serve in the military at 18 but cannot buy an alcoholic drink in a bar or restaurant.” A statement made by Camille Paglia in Its Time to Let Teenagers Drink Again. Although this article was well written and made some good point I have to disagree with the statements made by Paglia for three main reasons. One being her lack of connection to the issue bring big weakness to her argument and second that this article is too opinionated.…

The 1980s was also the time of the steepest declines in black dropout rates for young adults. However, while black dropout rates in the 1980s did significantly decline on their own there still remained a large gap between black and white students. Though college completion rates from the 1960s until the mid-1970s saw mild steady growth rates for African Americans. But there was decrease in rates in late 1970s, perhaps due to the greater incentive to gain employment after secondary school (Pew Research, 2013).…

People spend most of their life in school, and by the time kids are in high school, they learn that school is not for them. Many kids fail to complete their credentials in high school and drop out before they graduate. The dropout rate in the U.S is increasing very often and people often try to understand just exactly why kids are dropping out. One of the main factors for kids dropping out is motivation. Kids that do not receive encouragement or guidance at home are very unlikely to find any motivation to go to school because they are not pushed to get their education.…

Approximately 65,000 undocumented students graduate from U.S. high schools each year. The controversial topic emerged of whether or not children of illegal immigrants should be allowed to receive an education. It does our country no good to prevent children from receiving their education because they are the future. We are only hurting ourselves by preventing the new era from growing and helping to expand our wonderful country. If an illegal immigrant, particularly a young one, wants to get an American education it should be considered a path to citizenship. Children should not be punished simply because they weren’t born here or because their parents weren’t born in America. However, regardless of their academic role they should always have the intent on becoming a citizen and a productive member of US society.…

Some of their children, who are born in their homeland are unwillingly brought with them. The children of these immigrants are then illegally residing and eventually are raised in a country that they were not born in, yet over time, develop a strong connection with America because they have lived in the country for the majority of their lives. Essentially, they are like any other typical American, but the place that they were born in prevents them from reaching their fullest potential to make positive contributions…
