Pants such as leggings, yoga pants, spandex running pants and other tightly fitted clothing have been banned from schools. Some schools allow students to wear these pants as long as the shirt they are wearing follows the fingertip length rule all the way around. Also some schools have the rule that jackets, coats, athletic shorts, tank tops, and sweatpants cannot be worn. Other restrictions on students apparel are things such as holes in jeans, some jewelry, hats and bandanas. Students are limited to what they can wear to school; this makes it very hard when purchasing clothes for school. As said by a student participating in a protest against the new dress code policy at Haven Middle School in Illinois, ¨Not being able to wear leggings because it's too distracting for boys is giving us the impression that we should feel guilty for what guys do.¨ (Culp-Ressler 1). These dress codes link girls´ clothing to boys´ inability to control themselves. Every day, every week, every month, every year, students are faced with the authorities furthering unhealthy attitudes about sexuality. If we don´t stop sending this message to the students, these girls will grow up thinking they have to work to prevent themselves from being ogled by men. We need to take a step towards teaching boys that they should stop (externalizing)objectifying their female
