School Day Stereotypes

“Oh, he plays football? He must be a dumb jock.” Stereotypes are apart of our everyday life. Instead of paying attention to how unique someone is, stereotypes are used to flesh out the rest of a person's characteristics when they can only observe a small portion of them. Every person, young or old, is labelled with either positive or negative stereotypes. The stereotype I’m generally given is I have good grades, so I must be a nerd. When most people think of a girl as a nerd they imagine her wearing a skirt, sweater or polo shirt, braces, glasses, and have her hair in a ponytail. For the most part, nerds are found unattractive. Throughout the school day nerds are mostly found alone, reading a book, doing homework, or researching on their computer. They’re generally unathletic and have poor social skills, therefore making them unpopular and disliked. They most definitely have straight A’s in every class. …show more content…
Also, In school I’m commonly found doing my homework or working ahead in classes more than I’m found slacking off. However, I do not dress like a nerd. I regularly dress in a tshirt and jeans or sweatpants just like any average student at my school. I’m also very athletic and fit. I am captain of the basketball and volleyball team. I also spend a lot of my free time with my friends. Ultimately, I’m fairly popular and liked throughout the school and community. Although I do have straight A’s and I’m mostly found doing my homework in school, I would not stereotype myself as a nerd. Instead of focusing on all the mistakes of each person, we should start paying more attention to how unique each person
