School Board Reflection Paper Example

On November 2nd 2015, I attended a school board meeting for the Spring Grove Area School District. Those who were in attendance besides the board members were the high school principle, along with several of the high school teachers, some staff from the intermediate and elementary schools and finally Lisa Smith the community correspondent. I was the only outside or community member present. There were several topics discussed such as, new course proposals, new fundraising ideas and the hiring of several people. One of the main things discussed was new classes to be offered for the high school students. The principle thought that these classes would be a great addition to the classes already offered for her students. The teachers from the high school were there to answer any questions that the board members had about the new classes. Some of the new classes included internet safety, space engineering and more college in the high school classes. This would expand the amount of curriculum that one teacher would have to know if they were to teach these classes, but all the teachers involved said that it would be worth it for the students and their interests. Also she is the organizer of the school website and was explaining some of the new additions to it. A new addition is news clippings, this gives the community a chance to get the news clippings off line if they do not receive the paper. Another new section is an explanation of how to apply to become a volunteer for the school district. This is a great resource for the community to know exactly what is expected of them before they can volunteer within the school district. This will help teachers and future teachers to have more volunteers in their classrooms and on the field trips because the information is easily
