School Board Meeting Essay

A school board is a very important part of the school district. The member of the school board can be elected or appointed and they have many keys jobs that make them so important. Some of these jobs include making sure each child has the best education possible, think about the community’s viewpoint, and keeping the budget as close to the given amount as they can. When I first learned we had to attend a school board meeting as one of the assignments for this class, I wasn’t too thrilled, just because many meetings go over the same thing and it would be a bit of a hassle to go there. At this point, before going to the meeting, I was still in the point of view when I was in high school, but I soon realized that as a future teacher I should care …show more content…
Before this class, I had never been to a school board meeting and I decided to go back to the district where I went and to see how things are going since I have graduated. Since I went to a school that is in the class of 3A, it didn’t last as long as I would have compared to the bigger school district like those here in Topeka. I went to the meeting on November 13th and since they stick to the agenda so well it was over in about an hour and I stayed for the whole time, minus the tour of RHS. Since there are only four schools in the district, each year the school board visits each school for a meeting and goes on a “tour” after the meeting to see if anything needs to be changed in the future. A good amount of people were at this school board meeting and it was like every typical meeting they have during the year. The things they talked about at this meeting included; approving the agenda and minutes of the last meeting, going over the budget, look at the public forum to see if anyone is meant to talk to board, approving out of state trips and the protocol needed for the trip (gifted program) comments of supernatant and board members (if they feel like anything should be known to the public), look over who is looking to renew contacts for upcoming sports and approving them for jobs (don’t say the

First, most of the attendees were bewildered due to the short notice of the special board meeting at 5:30 pm. Then, the regular meeting was forced to start until 6:45 pm. which is scheduled for 6:00 pm. I heard that according to the code of the Board; the teachers and the public should be informed for a reschedule change with 72 hours in advance. I observed that some of the attendees were frustrated due to this unethical procedure.…

As a concerned father, citizen and taxpayer of Sunflower County, I am deeply moved by what is currently transpiring in the Sunflower County Consolidated School District (SCCSD). In recent days, I have contacted the school district repeatedly trying relentlessly to reach newly appointed Superintendent Miskia Davis in hopes of possibly having an opportunity to speak with her regarding certain concerns that have recently developed or are currently developing even now. These grave concerns not only upset me as a PARENT but more so as a FATHER!…

Brown vs Board of Education Imagine going to school day after day and constantly feeling inferior. In the early 1900s, African American teenagers had to feel this way every single day due to the fact that they were shutout and mocked. North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Arkansas all were challenged by racial segregation in public schools. “In 1954, large portions of the United States had racially segregated schools, made legal by Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), which held that segregated public facilities were constitutional so long as the black and white facilities were equal to each other” (McBride). Yet, this was not the case.…

Reflection for Week Eleven During week eleven I had the opportunity to sit in on parent teacher conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. Although the days were very long since we were at school until 6:30pm each night, I gain knew insight from the teacher’s perspective. I learned that it is best to sit beside the parents instead of sitting in the “teacher’s chair” so that parents do not feel intimidated as you share information about their students. You want to make the parents feel comfortable as they listening to the teacher give an overview of their students’ progress, strengths, weaknesses, and goals. You also want the parents to feel comfortable sharing information that could help their student in the classroom during the meeting regardless…

I think the school board should have had integration, but I think that the integration should have happened when the kids were younger. This way the kids would grow up with having different types of people in their classes and they would never know the difference. This solution would have benefited many students, teachers, and parents because there would not be as much violence and worry about the children. In addition to having the integration with younger students, I think the integration should have included an even number of African American students and white students. This way the students would have many friends to help and stick up for each other in hard…

Over the course of my seven years teaching high school social studies, I have had the opportunity to learn about the evolving roles and responsibilities of a school administrator from three amazing principals. Henry Kluttz, Kelly Withers, and Angelo DelliSanti have been excellent models for anyone aspiring to be an administrator. Having recently started my own journey towards this leadership role, my knowledge of what makes a great principal has grown exponentially. Having the opportunity to interview a pair of veteran elementary school principals through this assignment has been an eye-opening experience. Having spent the entirety of my teaching career at the high school level has left me with a limited understanding of how an elementary school functions.…

The environment of a classroom is a very important factor in a child’s education and should include a variety of centers, equipment, and space. Ideally the classroom will provide the students with different learning tools and stimuli in an area that does not feel overcrowded or cluttered. Children should be provided with an environment that is not over crowded with too many students and not enough resources- something that can be difficult in certain school systems. Overall the indoor environment for learning is one of the most important aspects of a child’s educational experience. The class observed in this paper was located in Elon Elementary School.…
