School Board And SBDM Reflection

School Board and SBDM Reflection Earlier in the semester, I attended a school based decision making council (SBDM) meeting at Murray Middle school on September 8, 2015. There were seven total board members present. The principal, Lou Carter, was in charge of the council. The council was composed of teachers, office workers, and the principal. Most of the decisions made were managerial; however, a few were instructional. The council set goals for their GAP targets. These included the reduction of the amount of students who were receiving novice on standardized testing. They talked about having three opportunities to nominate a student of the week and worked on picking the first student. They looked at last year’s scores and saw that they had very high scores in accommodating the arts in their school. The council was working on the budget and items of expenditures such as projector bulbs were added to the list. Another item added was printer ink from a new company who had a lower price for schools. The budget was accepted by all of the council members. At the end of the meeting, each council member was in charge of forming a committee for the school for different grade levels that involved at least one member, one parent, and two teachers from that grade level to be representatives. …show more content…
They both had budgets to approve and had to find the cheapest routes for various items. Both had legal issues that they had to attend to. One of the differences between the two meetings was that the SBDM council was more personally involved in the school and worried about some instructional issues. They also only had to worry about their one school, Murray Middle. The school board was more concerned with managerial issues and made decisions for the school system as a whole. Both meetings were concerned about their schools and were working hard to improve various things to better the system for their

The meeting would consist of less than half of the thirteen active members. The members saw their role as overseeing the community center’s wellbeing along with setting new policies failing to review their mission over time. When Leslie addressed the board to extend their meeting time for planning, members only wanted to extend their meeting by a hour rather than a day event to discuss different planning strategies. The board failed to work as a group with all thirteen…

Communication The principal of Gibsland – Coleman is an effective emerging leader. He is only in his second year of being an actual administrator. Prior to accepting the full - time position last year, the principal had been a classroom teacher at a larger inner-city Title I school in Shreveport, LA. Several of his administrative missteps were directly related to his inexperience as an administrator; however, many of the new ideas he attempted at Gibsland were potentially effective methods for fostering a positive school climate.…

When first reading this discussion board I was confused because I have never heard of a Research Plan. I was puzzled because I didn't know how to share my experience if I was unclear of what this was. After learning the benefits of using one and learning exactly what this was it made this much easier for me to relate to and understand. Every time I have a assignment I will layout what all needs to be included so I can check off everything I have already included or what else needs to be discussed. It's more of a bullet list of what need to be included.…

I did agree with the discussion regarding price since the trip was going to cost about fifteen hundred dollars. The feasibility of affordability and which type of students, mainly the wealthier, could afford it was a great discussion and very helpful to the choir teacher. I will also note that there was a lot of discussion about enrollment numbers but not about ways to increase enrollment or what schools were doing to deal with declining enrollment. But that looked like it was a discussion in previous meetings from what I could glean from the minutes.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

It is no secret that the school systems in America have numerous faults and shortcomings. As a student that has attended various schools, both private and public, in multiple areas within two different states, I am no stranger to the flaws within our school systems. Although some issues are present only in certain areas, there are many that are prominent within almost every school, regardless of location or the average income of the surrounding area. While negatively affected by problems such as a lack of funds, faculty and staff shortages, and diminishing supplies and extracurricular activities I, as well as many other students, paid them little mind. We accepted these faults as minor, unavoidable aspects of the school system.…

Moreover being in a second grade classroom, I feel that one instructional practice that really benefits the students in my classroom is repetition. They often times need to observe or practice something multiple times before they are fully in understanding. For example, every week the students are assigned a series of twelve new vocabulary words that they practice every day for twenty minutes a day through various activities, along with practicing them at school they are encouraged to practice them at home. At the end of the week the students have a quiz on those vocabulary words. However, through the words being full of repetition my teacher puts importance on making the curriculum have a advanced insight and helps the students gain confidence…

    High School Reflection

When you reflect on something it usually means that you are looking into the past on an issue that you could change or maybe just looking back on an issue and realizing that there is more than just one way you could have done it and have a different outcome, but in this case I have to reflect on my high school career. High School for me is a thing that I would love to forget and is a thing I forget to love. High school has had ups and downs, but it has shown me how to have fun and be stressed out all at the same time. From freshman to senior year it has been a roller coaster of laughs and cries and not knowing what day or month it is, yet knowing when the next three day weekend is going to be. Academic wise, school is, needless to say, not so bad, the only time when school is over the top stressful is when finials roll around the corner and everyone is trying to get their grade up to at least passing.…

However I wanted to incorporate more strategies such as using visual anchor charts, showing examples of student work, and giving the students simple rubrics to evaluate themselves and giving them the opportunity to decide whether they reached their goal. Attending grade-level meetings also gave me an opportunity to discuss student progress, any concerns I currently had about their writing, and other strategies I could implement in my teaching. Through these strategies I knew that my students ' performance would improve because they would assume more…
