During my time in the child studies M.Ed. program, I pursued opportunities that focused on providing and improving interventions for children in home- and school-based environments. My knowledge in these areas was gained through three main experiences. The first experience was working as a data collector for a school-based intervention study which provides preschool teachers with a professional development opportunity to deliver targeted interventions to children with disabilities. The second experience was collecting and qualitatively coding focus group data from early intervention professionals who provide home-based intervention services to young children with disabilities in an urban area. The final experience which shaped my expertise

    My school-based educational intervention was designed to create greater awareness of the risks of texting and driving. Using the Theory of Planned Behavior, teens who text and drive may have misperceptions towards their personal invulnerability (attitude) and may further have skewed motivations to participate in risky driving behaviors because of the value they put on perceived social norms.
