How will you be using your degree?
After UMass Boston, I aim to pursue a career in medicine. Ultimately, this will allow me to get to know my community on a personal level. From those experiences, I hope to enact political and/or local change to the healthcare system for these populations. The populations I speak of are those in urban communities that face significant health disparities. Whether it is through policy or education, I know that UMass Boston has given me a strong foundation to take on the world.
• * Please respond: The greatest learning experience I have had so far at UMass Boston is . . .

• * What do you like most about UMass Boston?
I love that UMass Boston is so diverse. The diversity is not only in skin color, but also in thoughts and perceptions. Many students do not come from a traditional background where their parents were afforded a higher education. The passion and desire of these individuals are an inspiration in my academic journey.

• * What, if any, unique life experience do you bring to your education?
My parents worked very hard, but they did not have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. Sequentially, I grew up in the urban area of Roxbury, MA with a lower socioeconomic status. However, I have been able to grow academically and work to change this situation. These experiences have allowed me to empathize with vulnerable populations, especially immigrant communities. I bring the passion for the well-being of others to every aspect of my life. In education, this belief holds strong as I work toward gaining the knowledge to support large groups of people.

Her research concerning climate has begun a revolution for colleges to begin to take underrepresented students into consideration, starting with the mission statement to curriculum changes.
