While Athletic Trainers want to provide the best care for an athlete with an acute cervical injury, it is important to stay up to date with current protocol changes. Evidence has shown that some practices have caused more harm to a cervical spine patient. In May 2014, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) released an official statement pertaining to this issue. It serves as an extension to a long-standing position statement, which was released in 2009. The main focus of the official statement is to adapt to the changes made by EMS for prehospital care.…

Good evening, Shana! I wanted to ask you if there are any upcoming events or activities that would help meet our Presidential Scholar service hours requirement that you know of at this time. I am worried that I may struggle to meet the criteria this semester as I am unable to work any of the art shows due to class and volleyball matches. I have spoken with almost all of the Presidential Scholars and many of them have this same worry. I know many of us in the program filled our service hour duties through weekly office hours where we either worked with the communications director or in the CCP office in the past.…

blah blah … To be an athletic trainer for a team in the Olympic games is my ultimate, long term goal. Athletic training has been a part of my life for several years now but on the opposite side as an athlete. In high school I was a part of a dance company and on the high school dance team, dancing around forty plus hours a week which resulted in several injuries, because of these injuries I was able to get my first glimpse into the athletic training world. Now in college, I am working with the University of Oklahoma’s Athletic Department and more specifically the softball team.…

The McNulty Scholar program provides many opportunities for me to do research in the subject that I want to spend my life pursuing. During my time in chemistry, I found that “learning by doing” is the most effective way for me to learn that particular subject. I would be able to use that when it comes to research, because I would first hand be doing chemistry, not only expanding my knowledge of chemistry for myself, but for the others who the research will…

Being a first generation college student, I did not know that I could have a career conducting research or that I could have a profession that inspired me in the way that conducting research has thus far. I would like to pursue graduate education because despite my collection of research experiences and my education in statistics and research methods, I know that there is a realm of skills that I do not currently possess that are necessary to conduct higher level research. Study at a university like the University of Tennessee will not only provide me the quality education needed to conduct research but it will connect me to individuals who will help to open avenues previously closed to me. I have always wanted to do something that would change the world and I understand that is a lofty goal, but if I could use my talents and passions to help just a few people, then I would feel accomplished.…

When one thinks of a scholar, the first people that come to mind are mathematicians, scientists, literary analysts, and other traditionally “academic” professionalists. However, these professions are not the only scholarly careers that exist. “The Case for Working with Your Hands” by Matthew Crawford is an essay which argues against the wrong perception of mechanics and other “hands-on” professions. In his essay, Crawford describes the intellectual challenges of working in a “hands-on” field and his own journey in becoming a mechanic. One of his primary inspirations is a man named Fred.…

They say that the distinction in scholarly accomplishment was identical to 33% of an evaluation at age 16, which would be adequate to lower normal fulfillment to an evaluation D rather than an evaluation C. On the other hand, the relationship in the middle of corpulence and scholarly achievement was less clear in young men.…

Gore’s argument in his book, The Assault on Reason, informs readers about the way fear encourages illogical thinking. Gore varies greatly between different methods of persuasion, including appeals to emotion (pathos) and credibility (ethos). He utilizes these many techniques to bring out the relationship between politics and fear, however, a specific element overshadows the others. The extensive application of expertise, a form of ethos, lends itself to Gore’s statements about how fear affects people’s rationality. The significance of expertise lies in the knowledge and deep research that can account for a wide variety of the ideas that Gore mentions throughout his argument.…
